In an effort to minimize domestic violence and to give alternative source of income to active and returning Overseas Foreign Workers (OFWs) in the province, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Provincial Government conducted recently a training for said sector.
Cecile Ungihon, Social Welfare Officer III said that overseas employment creates so much social and family problems which affect family relationships. Although overseas employment surely answers economic aspect of the family, the welfare of the children and the family as a whole is affected leading to broken families and unprotected children, she added.
Records of the PSWDO show that most of the crimes committed are due to the absence of a parent or both parents especially the mother who is working abroad. Most of the rape cases done to children are attributed to the absence of the mother who is an OFW.
"Thru series of skills trainings, OFWs will opt to stay home than work abroad and sacrifice their families," Ungihon said.
Freda Tayaban also of the PSWDO said that the Entrepreneurial Development Training on techno transfer on food, beverage and catering services and financial literacy was conducted to about 50 active or returnees and dependents of OFWs.
"This activity will help them be employed, additional source of income or when into business, they will no longer go back overseas," Tayaban said.
Ms. Loreta Vergara, OWWA Activity Coordinator said that she will monitor implementation of the trainings so that resources will not be put to waste. (PIA-Ifugao)
