Forum on coco-biodiesel to be conducted in TaclobanTacloban City (January 31 2006) -– A forum on Coco-Biodiesel will be conducted at the DWU Audio-Visual Hall at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon of February 9.
This was announced by Engr. Romulo Uy, the project coordinator who said that the forum aims to enlighten the public on the presence of the coco-biodiesel as an alternative source of fuel.
The forum is organized by the Urbi et Orbi, Inc. which is into the distribution of coco-biodiesel in the different provinces of Region 8. He said that the President of the company, Mr. Sammy yap, will be coming to Tacloban to make a demo on the many benefits that will be derived from using coco-biodiesel.
During the forum, Director Edilberto Nierva of the Philippine Coconut Authority will give the welcome remarks while Secretary Victor Domingo, Presidential Assistant for Eastern Visayas will deliver a message.
Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla is expected to deliver the inspirational talk. The provincial government of Leyte is one of the first users of coco-biodiesel in their vehicles using diesoline.
Mr. Samuel Yap will give a presentation on coco methyl ester. He is expected to demonstrate two the performance of two vehicles, one using coco-biodiesel and the other one, using just plain diesel.
The use of alternative source of energy is one of the priority projects of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as it will save about PHP14 billion in the imported diesel consumption. The money which will be saved will be used instead to fund the basic social services for the benefit of the Filipino people especially the poor and the disadvantaged.
Memorandum Circular No. 55 mandated all government agencies and all government owned and controlled corporations to use 1% coco-biodiesel to their diesoline fueled vehicles. (PIA
