General Santos City (31 January 2006) -- Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines based in this city vowed their full allegiance to the rule of law amid military adventurism that hounds the Armed Forces command.
The military leadership here said that adventurism among junior officers is an isolated case and that they will never be swayed into joining the renegade soldiers who might have been misled by expecting too much idealism in the government.
They maintained that these junior officers are being used by vicious politicians to rise in arms against the Arroyo government.
Brig. Gen. Alfredo Cayton, commanding chief of the 601st Brigade based in Malungon said the arrest of fugitive Marine Capt. Nicanor Faeldon after 44 days in hiding has displayed once again the unified spirit of the AFP chain of command and its full respect and obedience to the rule of law.
Over the weekend, the 57th IB, 6ID Philippine Army based in Asinan, Buayan, this city received nine Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) breakaway who surrendered as a result of intensified campaign of the military.
The surrenderers yielded 1 rocket propelled grenade, 1 garrand rifle, 1-cal 45 pistol, 1 shot gun, 2-40mm grenade launchers, 1 cal 30 spring field, 1 cal 38 revolver, and various types of ammunition.

Recently President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Datuk Othman Abd. Razak, newly appointed adviser of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, discussed "issues of mutual interest to the Philippines and Malaysia, notably the GRP-MILF peace talks."
The two officials highlighted the need to expedite the government-MILF peace talks, of which Malaysia hosts. Both officials said "the GRP and the MILF were fully committed to the peace process."
The meeting also discussed the possibility of expanding the membership of the International Monitoring Team (IMT), which is presently composed of Malaysia, Libya and Brunei.
The IMT has been accompanying the GRP and the MILF-Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCHs) in several fact-finding missions and has proved to be instrumental in addressing reported ceasefire violations from both sides.
The President and the Malaysian official vowed to pursue their initiatives until peace and development reigns in Mindanao. (PIA SarGen)
