Forward-looking solutions eyed vs high transport fares
Zamboanga City (27 June 2005) -- The continuing oil price hikes and the resulting increase in transport fares should spur us the
look for alternative and cheaper means of transportation. For example, we can look into possible incentives for more bus companies to shift to natural gas-fed buses. Stations that extend their services to natural gas should also be encouraged to promote the use of the fuel as an alternative to gasoline or diesel.
Meanwhile, local firm Chemrez Inc. has proposed to build a bio-diesel facility here in the Philippines, which will become the first and most modern large-scale plant in the Asian region, with an estimated project cost, valued at P980 million.
Chemrez Inc. will be producing bio-diesel using crude coconut oil as raw material. The project comes in a perfect timing when the use of alternative fuel is being pushed to counter sky rocketing prices of crude oil.
The bio-diesel plant is capable of producing 50,000 metric tons of biodiesel a year.
Chemrez Inc., is a unit of D&L Group, a leading supplier of colors, chemicals and plastics in the Philippines. (PIA)
