Samar to participate in Leyte festival
Catbalogan, Samar (28 June 2005) -- The Province of Samar will participate in the Leyte Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival in Tacloban City on June 29, this year.

According to Samar Governor Milagrosa T. Tan, the province is sending a contingent of over 100 young people from Samar to perform the "Panurundon" Festival, a holistic approach in dance to showcase Samar, its people and their way of life, to include the authenticity and richness of its culture and tradition.

"Panurundon" is a word from the local dialect which means legacy, something from the past carried forward to posterity.

The youth involved in the presentation, who come from the different schools in Catbalogan, capital town of Samar, underwent a rigid screening process and were chosen mostly for their dancing prowess and general attitude, Gov. Tan further informed.

Samar's lady Governor further added that the festival, to be held in Tacloban City, will be an opportunity to show the many good things that abound, but remain unnoticed or unwritten about in Samar. At the same time, it will also an opportunity for the young participants, most of whom come from poor Samar families, to widen their horizons and see Tacloban City, the Regional center of Eastern Visayas, Gov. Tan said.

She also said Samar's participation in the Leyte Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival is in response to an invitation extended by the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 8, through its Chairperson, Congresswoman Remedios "Matin" L. Petilla.

Dubbed as the "Festival of Festivals", the Leyte Pintados Kasadyaan Festival is a DOT-initiated tourism come-on which serves as one of the main attractions of the Tacloban City fiesta.

DOT 8 Regional Director Karen S. Tiopes said she is elated over Gov. Tan's positive response to the DOT-inspired activity. She also informed that Samar's "Panurundon" Festival is only one of several festivals in Region 8 joining as guest festival participants in this year's Leyte Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival.

Meanwhile, the group led by Festival Committee Chairperson Sharee Ann T. Tan is expected to be in Tacloban City by July 28 for general rehearsals and familiarization with the street dancing parade route. Choreography and over-all interpretation of the Panurundon Festival is credited to Mr. Wacky Torres, chief trainor, and his assistants, Rafael Asis and Ian Juanerio.

A general rehearsal of the street dancing and showdown portions of the Panurundon Festival has been scheduled to take place in the afternoon of June 27 in the Capitol Park grounds. (PIA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
