Knowledge for development center to open here Friday
DAVAO CITY, Oct. 1, 2002 (PNA) -- The University of Southeastern
Philipppine (USEP) and the World Bank (WB) will inaugurate the
Knowledge for Development Center and launch the World Development
Report 2002/2003 on Friday here.
The Center is located at the ground floor of USEP CAS-GS
building located at Bo. Orbreo St., this city.
To grace the rites are Christian Rey, assistant country director of
the World Bank- Philippines, Presidential Assistant for Mindanao
Jesus Dureza, Regional Development Council (RDC) chair Jesus Ayala,
National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Aurora Pelayo and
Dr. Julieta Ortiz, USEP officer-in-charge.
Ortiz said the center provides services to a wide group of
stakeholders in a country's development, including government
employees, students, researchers, consultants, civil society
representatives, donors and the business community.
It also offers access to WB documents and publications; access to
development and research sites on the internet; a special collection
of compact discs and videotapes on development issues; and the Global
Jolis catalogue system, which allows users to see the collections of
WB Public Information centers around the world, she said.
Meanwhile, Ortiz said, the World Development Report 2002/2003 is the
WB's contribution to an ongoing international dialogue on sustainable
developent. It examines the interactors between maintaining growth,
reducing poverty, ensuring social harmony and protecting the
environment.
A team from the WB's office in Washington, D.C. will make a brief
presentation of the Report and will be followed by an open forum with
the participants. (PNA)
