Jalandoni Bridge in Iloilo

Iloilo City (28 June 2005) -- Jalandoni Bridge, another strong infrastructure base that will help boost economic growth here will be formally opened by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on June 30, 2005.
The construction of the Jalandoni Bridge was initiated by Senate President Franklin Drilon and completed in the amount of P47,493,584.57.
From General Luna Street, city proper, the l70-meter bridge spans through the Iloilo river to connect with Barangay Nabitasan in La Paz.
For the fifth time since January 2005, President Macapagal-Arroyo will visit Iloilo, this time to inaugurate the project which is complementary to the government’s development efforts aimed at inducing economic growth.
PGMA’s last visit in Panay and Guimaras islands was on April l4 and was anchored on her administration’s priority thrusts in power, investment and economy.
The President in her speeches always emphasized that infrastructure is always complementary to the growth and development of the country’s trade, tourism and commerce.
The Jalandoni Bridge construction was started in March 27, 2003 and completed last March 3, 2005. Senator Drilon also initiated the construction of the access road leading to Hechanova street in the amount of P2l,204,282.55.
Other related components of the Jalandoni bridge project also include a proposal to construct a flyover along General Luna Street. Also proposed is the Iloilo Boulevard with promenade. It will connect westward towards Benigno Aquino Diversion Road and eastward to link with Bonifacio Drive.(PIA)
