Bohol cops ask for P9M to create SRU
by Rey Anthony Chiu

Tagbilaran City (30 December 2005) -- GOING hi-tech in anticipation of another tourist filled year, Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) through PSupt. Arturo Evangelista is asking some P9M from the Provincial Government to make a Special Reaction Unit (SRU) and create a local counter-terrorism quick response team and assure guests to their security while basking in Bohol.

In an action plan submitted to Capitol, Psupt. Evangelista said the P9M would finance the creation of the SRU. SRU is a composite team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Explosives and Ordnance Divisions (EOD), and trained dogs enlisted under a local K9 unit.

During his assumption into power as provincial police chief from retired acting Provincial Police Chief Elpidio YbaƱez, October 5, Col. Evangelista also took responsibility of Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado's provincial agenda.

The governor's mandate, a tall order for the new but personally chosen chief cop, asks for the new director to spoil the proliferation of illegal drugs, terrorism, organized crime groups, illegal fishing and illegal gambling, all within the next 6 months.

Days after he sat, a Globe communications tower was torched in another daring show or terrorism that seeks to compromise local peace and order.

Following the communications tower raid and torching of another facility some 30 kilometers away, BPPO called for a command conference October 26.

Different security agencies and security officers of malls, supermarkets, resorts and restaurants, critical infrastructure and vital installations attended the conference. The gab tried to assess and evaluate as well as upgrade existing security programs and contingency plans.

Current security provisions at the beaches were beefed up after Police Director General Arturo Lomibao two weeks ago turned over a world-class Community Police Action Center (COMPACT) in Bolod in Panglao.

In an interview, Gen. Lomibao said the Panglao COMPACT is just one of the three police modern police stations Philippine National Police is giving to Bohol as a tool to put up security measures in this booming tourism province.

Along with the Panglao police station is another equally strategic post in Batuan, Bohol, some three kilometers from the famous Chocolate Hills Complex.

Also benefiting from the PNP is Catigbian, who also happened to have the same security aid.

The security tools are just some of the measures government authorities are putting in place while the Senate is currently debating on the passage of the anti-terrorism bill, which is hoped to revolutionize counter-terrorism action in the country. (PIA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
