Hofer files graft cases vs. SP members
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Oct. 1, 2002 (PNA) -- Zamboanga Sibugay
Governor George Hofer has filed graft cases against Sangguniang
Panlalawigan (SP) members for alleged anomalous transactions
involving several millions of pesos uncovered by the Provincial Legal
Division.
Names respondents in the cases filed are Vice Governor Eugenio
Famor, SP members Eric Cabarios, Olimpio Ma alac, Jr., Secretary
Nicasio Pe a; a certain Camacho Chiong and several others.
The cases were filed with the office of the Deputy Ombudsman
for Mindanao Antonio Valenzuela, who was also furnished copies of the
five sets of the fact-finding investigation reports on the alleged
anomalous deals.
In his communication to the Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao,
Gov. Hofer asked for the immediate preventive suspension of the
accused officials in accordance with Sec. 9 of Administrative Order
No. 07 of the Office of the Ombudsman.
The suspension move was meant to preclude them from
influencing the proceedings as well as exercise undue pressure or
take advantage of unrestricted access to records.
SP members, for their part, insisted that there is no ground
for the filing of the said graft cases against them since all their
acts were covered with necessary resolutions and ordinances
especially in the disbursement of public funds.
They said it is in fact the governor who spend most of the
province,s money ans sometimes do so without the required
authorization from the SP.
