Vege diet promotes healthy lifestyle
Tacloban City (30 July 2005) -- More and more people are now health conscious and have reduced their consumption of meat. In its place, people have enriched their diet with a wide variety of plant-based food.
Numerous studies and researches show that a plant-based diet is associated to lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lesser risk of heart disease, lower risk of cancer and decreased weight.
The Eastern Visayas Conference has been conducting seminars to government employees and other groups in order to promote healthy lifestyle.
In the brief seminar held at the Philippine Information Agency 8, Mr. Gerry Idio said that his group is manufacturing Vege Meat as meat substitute and by-products from soy beans, grains like whole wheat and high fibered vegetables.
Their products include whole wheat bread, cinnamon bread, Vege gluten, Vege- tocino, vege-tapa, vege-burger, soy milk, tofu, tokwa and special taho.
Vege food is the answer to malnutrition especially in the depressed areas. Aside from being much cheaper than meat, it is low in purine and uric acid and easier to digest. (PIA
