Governor's Rice Mill caught with power pilferage
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Oct. 1, 2002 (PNA) - The Zamboanga del Sur
Electric Cooperative II (ZAMSURECO II) reportedly cut power
connection to the rice mill owned by Gov. George Hofer here after the
cooperative,s lineman allegedly found an illegal electrical
connection in it.
Sketchy reports from ZAMSURECO II submitted to the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan said the linemen discovered the electric power pilferage
lately following observations of higher systems loss in the area.
Sources close to the Hofer family, hoqwever, said the people
living around the rice mill facility were the ones responsible in
illegally tapping the electrical connection at the rice mill.
The same sources said the Hofer family most likely do not know
of such illegal activities within the premises of their business
establishment.
The power pilferage found at the GTH Rice Mill was also
recorded with
the Police Action Center in Kitabog and was later forwarded to the
Titay
Police, which records were submitted to the ZAMSURECO II office.
Reacting to the report, the members of the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan (SP) immediately called for the thorough investigation
of the said anomaly involving the name of the Governor.
SP member Olimpio Ma alac, Jr. said the Governor should explain
why he or his employees at the rice mill business was stealing
electricity from
ZAMSURECO II lines.
It was learned that Gov. Hofer was in Zamboanga City for the
Budget Seminar of the newly elected barangay officials in region 9
and for his routine check-up.
Manalac said the report he received was that a certain Eva,
tried to bribed the linemen and other personnel of the joint team of
ZAMSURECO and police
officials who went to cut the line and take the electric meter of the
rice mill.
The SP members approved unanimously a motion requesting the
officials of ZAMSURECO II to investigate thoroughly and file the
necessary charges against those involved in the electric pilferage.
