UP Mindanao opens land reservations to prospective partners
Davao City (29 June 2005) -- Developers and investors have a new site to consider after the University of the Philippines in Mindanao opened its land reservations to prospective partners.
Salome Sendrejas, UP Mindanao Land Reservation Extension Associate identified the area as good for agriculture and recreational areas and accessible through major highways.
She said there are two areas, one in Laak, Compostela Valley Province and the other in Marilog, Davao City.
The Marilog Land Reservation has an area of 4,100 hectares while Laak has 2,800 hectares.
Sendrejas said the development of the areas should be made within the framework of sustainable development of the natural resources and the improvement of the socioeconomic life of the local communities.
Presidential Proclamations Nos. 1252 and 1253 required the University of the Philippines to come up with a five-year development plan provided that the reserved areas will be used for research, extension and instruction purposes, forest rehabilitation and protection, biodiversity conservation, crops and livestock production and management, and upland communities training and development center.
Sendrejas said projects should be consistent with the goals of attaining socio-economic improvement and sustaining the productivity of the ecosystems and its resources. (PIA/pdbanzon)
