Pasay City – Gov. Erico B. Aumentado, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines and League of Provinces of the Philippines national president, rallied the Filipino youths to support the movement for national unity and reconciliation to avert the shadows of a nation divided.

Aumentado was the guest speaker during the grand awards night of the 1st Rizal National Festival of Excellence Friday Night at the GSIS Auditorium in this city.

Speaking extemporaneously, Aumentado said the Filipino youth should follow the ideals and teachings of Rizal, and whose love of country even led to his martyrdom.

As the fair hopes of the fatherland, he said, they must now join hands to help bind the wounds of the nation as a result of partisan politics, vested interests and greed for power.

He added, “after all the future of the country belongs to them and the future generations to come.”

The ULAP and LPP president said that it is time for the leaders of the nation to heed the counsel of Rizal to unite and work together to free the country from the bondage of poverty, ignorance and insecurity from within and without.

Thus, the governor said that the patriotism of every Filipino, including the youths of the land, is being summoned for the nation to attain national unity and reconciliation to sustain the momentum of the country’s economic growth and development fueled by the surging peso against the US dollar and skyrocketing stocks in the market registered during the Philippines Stock Exchange final trading day for 2006.

Aumentado lauded the winners and participants of the 1st Rizal National Festival of Excellence as their response to the call of Rizal, “where are the youths, the fair hopes of the fatherland who will dedicate their dreams and rosiest hours for our beloved country.”

Undoubtedly, he said, the festival has refocused the attention of the Filipino youth, in particular, and the country, in general, back to the life, ideals, labor and sacrifices of the foremost Filipino hero and pride of the Malayan race.

The Teatro Gingoog won the grand prize of P100,000 in the musical theater competition, while Arthur James M. Fernandez of Southwestern University won the champion’s prize of P25,000 in the oratorical contest.

Mr. Junry B. Organiza of Region 9 won the P25,000 grand prize in the quiz competition on Rizal’s life and labors.

The other principal speakers were former Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr., Supreme Commander, Order of the Knights of Rizal, and former Senator Joey Lina Jr., Immediate Past OKOR Supreme Commander.

Davide, Lina and Aumentado co-chaired the National organizing committee of the 1st Rizal National Festival of Excellence with a theme of “Kagalingan, Kabayanihan at Kaya Namin.”

Dr. Pablo S. Trillana III, immediate past deputy supreme commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, and Atty. Monina Camacho, ULAP executive director, co-chaired also the national technical working committee.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
