Government confident E-VAT wisdom be recognized by Supreme Court

MANILA (4 July 2005) -- The Palace has expressed confidence that the wisdom behind the implementation of the expanded Value Added Tax (E-VAT) would be recognized by the Supreme Court.

The statement was made by Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye after a Temporary Restraining Order was issued last Friday by the High Court to suspend the implementation of the new tax measure.

He pointed out that the E-VAT law is all about economic stability, and stressed out the legality of the tax measure and the unprecedented benefits it could bring to the Filipino people.

The Palace official said the country cannot afford to have further delays in the law's implementation for what is at stake is the welfare of the Filipinos, particularly the poor.

"We will plead before the High Court to reverse its decision soonest," Bunye added. (PIA-MMIO)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
