Samar DTI tag watchers reactivated
Catarman, Northern Samar (4 July 2005) -- They are everywhere. Sharp and eagle-eyed this untiring special team of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will watch at price tags closely as if they have never seen one before.
In a recent interview in "Huruhimangraw Sa Panginudto", a weekly tie-up radio program of PIA and Radio Station DYSM in Catarman, DTI's provincial director Stanley Tabiando announced the reactivation of the Price Monitoring Team in Northern Samar. The DTI group will prevent unscrupulous individuals from taking advantage of the vulnerable situation in the local market.
Tabiando said that the prices of such items as sardines, noodles, cooking oil, laundry soap, sugar, milk, bread, coffee including construction materials, school supplies and electrical supplies will be closely monitored.
During the interview, Tabiando was pleased to report that there were "no price movements" and that "supplies were adequate" during the conduct of the monitoring yesterday.
Tabiando also hopes that with the organization of the Northern Samar Consumers Association, private citizens and teachers will now be able to assist in price monitoring.
He warned unscrupulous individuals that Republic Act 7395, otherwise known as Consumers Act have sanctions for "enterprising" business establishments if found violating the said law. There are fines ranging from Php 50,000 to Php 100,000. He added that DTI will not hesitate to recommend the closure of business establishments if the situation calls for it. (PIA Northern Samar)
