DOST invites students to join poster-making contest

MANILA, June 1 (PNA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) invites Grades 7-10 students to join the poster-making contest with the theme, "Juan Science, Juan Nation: Magandang Bukas mula sa Pagtuklas at Makabahong Teknolohiya" until July 15.

The contest is in line with the observance of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) every July.

Students must be from the school divisions of Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Taguig-Pateros and Las Pinas. DOST noted that only one poster entry per school is allowed.

Thirteen finalists will be selected and will be featured in the 2017 DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) calendar.

The grand winner will receive Php 5,000, and his/her work will be showcased on the calendar cover and will also be part of the cover design of NRCP's Annual Report publication.

First and second placers, on the other hand, will receive Php 3,000 and Php 2,000, respectively.

The criteria for judging are: 40 percent - creativity/presentation, 30 percent - originality and 30 percent - relevance.

Entries will be exhibited at the NRCP Auditorium from July 18-22. The awarding ceremonies will be held on July 25 during the opening ceremonies of the DOST 2016 NSTW at the NRCP Auditorium in Bicutan, Taguig City.

Mechanics

1. Poster must be done in free-hand using the following materials to be provided by the participant: a 1/4 size illustration board (white background, vertical orientation) and regular pencil; permitted coloring materials are oil pastel/craypas, markers, ink, oil, acrylic and water color

Use of other materials not specified is strictly prohibited.

2. Official school entries must be submitted to NRCP on or before July 15, with letter of endorsement addressed to Dr. Marieta Sumagaysay, NRCP executive director, at NRCP, Gen. Santos Ave., Bicutan, Taguig City.

Contestants are accountable for any issues that may arise with regard to originality and authenticity of the design.

Also, all posters will automatically become official property of the DOST-NRCP. The agency reserves the right to revoke all prizes and titles herein in any case of misrepresentation or fraud, intended or otherwise, committed by any finalist upon due investigation by the DOST NRCP Taskforce for the 2016 NSTW.
