PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) to work double time in coming up with a national hazard mapping program that could warn communities and local governments against potential danger.
“I AM directing the DENR to step up the national hazard mapping program to forewarn vulnerable communities and help increase the capability of local governments for early warning and action,†the President said.
“We should not underscore the need for greater preparedness, operational effectiveness and predictive capacity; death and destruction in the wake of calamities can be minimized by organized and systematic human intervention. We must not leave things to fatal luck when we can develop the tools to prevent harm,†she added.
President Arroyo also appealed anew for unity and cooperation in helping in the relief and recovery efforts and rebuilding the lives of the families ravaged by super typhoon “Reming†(international codename: Durian).
Meanwhile, Forest Management Sector Head of PENRO-Bohol Jovencio Taer said that they have already submitted the hazard map of Bohol to the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC).
