Tacloban City (1 December 2005) -- Both the administration and opposition leaders reacted negatively to the accusations thrown by Thailand through its Prime Minister Shinawatra over alleged cheating on the on-going 23rd Southeast Asian Games. Both parties were quick to defend that when Philippine athletes play in any of the events, the referees and other officials who decide on the results of the games always come from other countries to make sure that fairness and sobriety is observed.
Other Filipinos also reacted that there are so many factors which make our athletes more inspired to be victorious in their events. The fact alone that they are on their native land and majority of the cheering audience are friends and kins makes more inspired, plus the fact that they are more comfortable and used to our climate compared to when they play in other countries.
However, in spite of the remarks of the Thai Prime Minister, the Philippine athletes still perspires to fight for their gold because deep in their hearts they believe they deserve the medal they have sweated and aspired for.
Perhaps this is the time when all Filipinos should unite and put behind previous mud slinging and instead work as one to uphold our national dignity. (PIA)
