Cebu business community backs PGMA
By Minerva BC Newman

Cebu City (1 July 2005) -- Amid a nationwide uproar and the varied reactions from all sectors on the President's public confession and apology, fourteen (14) business leaders in Cebu staunchly support President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's government and readily accepted her public confession and apology. This was contained in a joint press statement yesterday.

Calling themselves Cebu's multi-sectoral group, they strongly declared their unconditional support to the President and her administration. "What the President did is a mark of a true leader, a real stateswoman who takes full responsibility for her actions," the statement read.

Benson Dakay, president of the Seaweed Industry Association of the Philippines warned that the economy would crash if President Arroyo resigns. " There is no better leader at this point in time. The Philippines is facing an economic crisis and a change in leadership would make it worse," Dakay said in media interview.

The statement also called on the political leaders and the public to join hands in a show of unity, act in sobriety and vigilance, move forward and attend to the many problems confronting the nation.

The statement was signed by the following organizations: Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay & Leyte); Philippine Chamber of Commerce 7 Industry; Philippine Exporters Confederation-Cebu; FAME Foundation Philippines, Inc; Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation; Seaweed Industry association of the Philippines; Hotel, Resorts & Restaurants Association; Cebu GTH; Cebu Banker's Club; Cebu Association of Tour Operators and Barug! Pilipino. (PIA-Cebu)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
