PGMA’s humility manifests statesmanship
By Jennilyne O. Casimiro
San Fernando City, La Union (28 June 2005) -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s statement over television last night admitting talking to a Comelec official and asking for forgiveness to the whole nation manifests sincere statesmanship.
It is not easy for any one to admit mistakes but the courage of the President to admit and apologize to what she quote, ‘lapse in judgment’ live and viewed by the whole world is a sign of sincere humility, notwithstanding her position as the highest person in the country.
The people are now the deciding factor in this scenario with consideration of the majority of the people, especially the poor who are most affected with the present crises the country is facing into.
Nevertheless, the President assured the nation to continue her reforms agenda and promised to work harder to win the trust of the people and get the nation back on track.
It is our duty as citizens to work hand in hand with the government for a unified and progressive Philippines.
Let’s give the President a second chance to prove her worth and continue what she has started.
Otherwise, could we sacrifice our nation to be loomed in darkness if chaos arises? Could we accept once more to stumble and bear the negative consequences of a divided nation?
The interest of service to the nation is more overriding than the lapse in judgment the President has committed…let this serve as a lesson, a part of history for a better Philippines. (PIA)
