Dumaguete City (31 January 2006) -- Police have raised the alert status in three southern towns in Negros Oriental province following intelligence reports indicating that these towns are due for attack by members of the New People's Army (NPA).
According to Provincial Police Director P/Sr. Supt. Omar Buenafe, the three towns are Dauin, Siaton and Zamboanguita.
Although Buenafe refused to disclose specific target locations, he said that beach resorts in the said areas are primary on the watch list by the police and a special task force.
Dauin, Siaton and Zamboanguita towns are host to a number of beach resorts owned by foreigners with Filipina spouses.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has earlier ordered the creation of a special task force to patrol the shorelines of the provinces of Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Panglao, Bohol, Apo Island in Dauin, and Dipolog against possible attack. (PIA)
