Butuan City (4 July 2005) -- With President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as guest of honor, Butuan will once again celebrate another milestone - the 55th Adlaw Hong Butuan Charter Day Anniversary on August 2, 2005. According to organizers, the celebration will highlight the basic Filipino values and time honored customs and traditions of the Philippines.
Butuan City, the region's capital and trade center was declared charter city on August 2, 1950. This made the Municipality of Butuan the capital city of the then undivided provinces of Agusan through Republic Act 1162 authored by former Agusan Representative the late Marcos Calo.
This year's theme "Butuanons: Proudly Pinoy" will feature the Filipino talents, values and services. These will be showcased through a float parade that is expected to revive and instill in every Butuanons the moral and civic values of a true Filipino.
The float parade will be participated by different government agencies and private companies in the city. To date most government agencies have signified their intention to join and mount a float parade.
Mayor Plaza expects the President to be present during this momentous occasion after the President failed to grace the blessing and inauguration of Butuan City Hall during her recent visit in San Luis, Agusan del Sur this region.
Mayor Democrito Plaza announced this during a joint press conference with Agusan del Sur Governor Adolph Edward Plaza whereby both declared unequivocal support to President Arroyo. (PIA 13)
