Bol-anon father stabs own son
« on: October 24, 2007, 07:02:06 PM »
It was a case of Cat Stevens' "Father and Son" going out too far.

An argument between a 39-year-old father and his 10-year-old son in Barangay Virgen, Anda became a case of life imitating art - with bloody consequences.

The unfortunate incident happened about 11 midnight in the third district town last Oct. 11.

Records reaching Camp Dagohoy identified the suspect as one Arsenio Olayon, a resident of Virgen, Anda.

Stevens' hit song details the communication gap between father and son, a song so relevant it remains popular more than three decades since the folk icon dropped out of sight from the entertainment field.

In the Anda episode however, the argument must have turned from bad to worse - enough for the father to lose his head altogether.

No doubt aided by the alcohol that clouded his sense of judgment, the suspect could no longer control his anger during the exchange.

In a fit of rage, Olayon took hold of an ice pick and repeatedly stabbed his 10-year-old son.

The boy sustained at least five stab wounds on different parts of his body arising from the physical assault.

He was immediately rushed to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (CGMH) in Tagbilaran for treatment to his injuries.

The report did not mention who was responsible for bringing the boy to safety in the city.

Olayon is presently detained at the Anda PNP jail pending the filing of appropriate charges against him.

Oh, I felt so bad reading this, Mike!  If the boy survives, he will always carry the emotional and physical scar of what his father did.  His father will always regret what he did to his son.  Alcohol may have played a big role in that altercation or who knows. I felt so so bad for this wounded family.

The moral of the story is to evade over-intoxication. Alcohol diminishes one's ability to perceive from right and wrong, and heightens anger and rage. Ok raman mo inom, pero with moderation ra ba ug ayaw lang pa alcoholic. Diba?

That's right, Bran! My father used to be a big drinker.  He scared us a lot when he got drunk.  He never touched us (drunk or not) but just the same when he got loud, it was really terrorizing.   This has always been my question jud, Bran!  Ngano man jud mag sobra man inom when they know already mabuang na kon mahubog!

This story reminded me of fatal stabbing of a boy in Maribojoc in another thread, only here the father stabbed his own son and I pray to God he survives and he will forgive his father.

Im so sorry, Ging, that you had to go through with that, I really really am. Pero, we learn from our experiences, and its good that you mentioned about forgiveness in your post. That is the ultimate strength of character, to be able to forgive those who did you harm. My prayers are with little boy, that he survives this and that he is able to forgive his father for such an act. And that the father stop his drinking habits...

Thanks, Bran!  My Dad stopped smoking which is what we have been praying for long and he also kind of stopped drinking too but only on special occasions.

Forgiveness is really important.  God shouldn't find in our hearts that we need to forgive somebody.  It's so hard to move on if we don't forgive people who wronged us.  For this boy, I will pray for him to find it in his young heart to forgive his father and move on with his life free of anger and someday he will be a fine boy just like you!
