Silliman University in Dumaguete City.

Course: Bachelor of Mass Communication

Major in: BSBS or Bachelor in BasaBasa

Insight: Silliman has a strong community support. They call it "Silliman spirit."

Most students in Silliman come from various provinces of our country.

In the 60s and 70s, hundreds of students were from the U.S. and other Western countries. Silliman was founded by an American philanthropist in 1901.

Today I heard that most foreign students are from Mid East, Korea, Japan, etc.

We used to have a lot of foreign students in our campus but when the Manila officials insisted that foreign students take up Tagalog subjects, the students packed up and went home.

My extra-kuri-kuri? I was writing for the Weekly Sillimanian for three school years. I was also involved in many campus organizations.

My grades started to decline when I spent too much time playing chess.

^ A fellow chess player eh? hahaha. You know I have a deep fond respect for people who engage in chess, not many do: and the ones that do usually have very interesting personalities. "Chess is for those with great minds"..as the old proverb say..haha.

Oh im currently a 4th year student of Allegheny College, which is in Pennsylvania. Its a small private liberal arts college--founded in 1815 and our student body is around ~2000 students. There really isnt that much diversity in campus as 96% of the student body is caucasian-Americans and the rest of the 4% are composed of Asian Americans, Hispanics, and African Americans. I'm a double major in both Biology and History--and will graduate in May 2008. I'll be attending medical school from 2008-2012---so 5 more years for me, sir.

I'll be 'tiguwang sa kasatanan' by the time i'm done, lol.

Mike, we should play chess sometime man. When I go back to bohol next year--we should have coffee and chess. Sounds good, mi amigo?

I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management Accounting ( Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Management and Minor in Accounting ) at the University of San Carlos.

USC is the first educational institution ( school of learning ) in the Philippines. It was formerly Colegio del San Ildefonso. USC as a school was ahead of UST and Harvard but UST got the university status than USC as Manila used to be the seat of government.

It is ran by the Divine Word congregation ( mostly Germans ), in German, it is Universati Sancti Caroli with a slogan Scientia Et Virtus.

I took up Bachelor of Arts in Film and Audio Visual Communication at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. I proceeded to enroll in a graduate program in Comparative Literature for a year but dropped out after my enrollment records are nowhere to be found in the registrar's office. I then went to the De La Salle University in Manila and took Masters of Arts in Communication Major in Applied Media Studies. I finished all my academic requirements and finished my comprehensive exam. I then went home to Bohol to have my research for my thesis. I ended up working for the government. And no thesis until now!

UPDiliman was founded in 1908 by the Americans. It's a state university but is autonomous in its operations. It's not under CHED and DECS. Sa habuganay, UP ang kinahambugan for they say, "There are only two universities in the Philippines- University of the Philippines and others." Bitaw, the university is not the best university daw in the Philippines but it has the best students daw. The students are taught how to learn so when they go out to the real world, they fit like Cinderella's shoes on anyone's foot. hehehe! The students are taught academic freedom and are influenced to fight for democracy, human rights, and wayward government officials, among others. Haha! Too much freedom that you can wear your pajamas to school (which my math prof once did)!

De La Salle University Manila was founded in 1911. It's run by the La Sallite brothers. It's the subject of a lot of "discriminating" jokes from the University of the Philippines and Ateneo De Manila University. Anyhow, I found out that the school has a close-knit family relationship and its faculty are very concerned and caring towards its students. It hopes to develop good leadership among men and women through Christian values for the development of the country.

La Salle people look down on ADMU and vice versa. UP looks down on everyone! UP, ADMU, and DLSU look down on AMA! (LouyA!) toink! Depende lang sa magpapildi. It even brings chaos labaw na kung UAAP na kay moabot gyud sa point nga magbono gyud og DLSU ug ADMU na ang magduwa.

UP hates the pa-coÃ±o effect of ADMU and La Salle. I bet ADMU and La Salle hate the barumbado effect of the Isko. School culture lang na but away from that culture and being individuals stripped to the core, dili man sila ing-ana.

Still, beyond the "discriminating" facade, I know there is deep respect among institutions. I know UP recognizes Silliman labaw na sa field of arts and literature. I recognize Silliman for being the instrument of my Christianity.

...I know how to open the bible during my REEd class... and even wear my below knee uniform just not to offend the guards...But my most memorable school is, when i was in Southwestern University coz its there i learn to become aware of the present issues that happened in our society...And im proudly say that i finish education at HNU coz i believe that the future of my husband depends on me...

They were rushing to get pledged---they were just singing in the middle of winter outside...haha palamuut jud kai naa man ko amigo dinha--ning pledge pood siya---and gi ingan sila kono if you want to get into the frat--you have to take your clothes off and run around in the snow. Walay clothes jud. Ako--wa ko ning pledge ana kai too much ra pood na---

Pre, guapo jud kastanan ang location dinhi--rural man jud ang college nako--like 100 miles away from any city--sometimes lonely kai gamay ra ang population sa town around the college---mo mingaw ko sa ahong pamilya pero if i go hiking around every other day around the allegheny mountains---di na jud ko ma depress or sad kai guapo man jud ang nature. One thing I realized during my tenure dinhi is how beautiful God's creation is--the mountains..streams..rivers etc. Just beware of brown bears....hahaha

Onic,

The University of San Carlos' campuses is relatively most similar in terms of ambience and facilities with your school, and she is at par with any universities of excellence ....

Hoy wala nay bias ha... ( just because I graduated from USC), but you could visit the campuses of the Science and Technology in Talamban ( no one in Cebu or Bohol and neigboring cities ) of course except UP and Ateneo de Manila... coz LaSalle in within the busy streets.....

I believe you could figure it out now....

Musta pre!! unsa man gi buhat nimo dinha?? hahaha oo mashyado ko sa mountain hiking--addictive raba jud na--specially if mo adto ka with a group of people--maka share jud mo sa experience sa nature. Wa ko ka anha sa Dolomiten mountains--pero ive heard about it. Guapo ba dinha? Lami diay ug mo bringta kanang beer dinha after pitching a tent--and just cozying with friends hah? Pre--you should visit dinhi--sa Allegheny mountains sa northwestern Pennsylvania--guapo kasatanan ang view--especialidad sa autumn and early december months.

Pero ang only thing to watch out for are brown or black bears...mo follow jud na sila kay gusto pood na sila mo-kauun..haha.

Dumaguete is built around Silliman University. The school is founded by American missionaries in 1901. It has been said that without Silliman, there would be no Dumaguete as it is today.

I'm very proud as a UBIAN, If you look at sa mga board passer taas man ang rating sa UB . One thing too is when I was applying my job at Shell Oil Company, 25 mi nag take sa exam and the company need only two , in fact ang kasama ko mga Mapua graduate, ang uban graduate sa mga sikat nga Universities sa Manila, siguro I'm very lucky, out of 25 only 4 who passed the exam and I'm one of the 4, but the company they need only two guys to fill up the position, so the manager will set us an interview at thesame time kaming apat nga mi passed sa exam. The first question is saan ka nga Universities mi graduate, I'm very proud to answer the question UB the only University in Bohol, 2nd question is pila ang score sa Board exam ha ha ha patay silang tulo kay naka top 10 ko sa board exam kay naka kuha man ug tip or liqds during the board exam The other one is from UB pero University of Bagyo top 20 sa board exam. the two guys are from Mapua board passer too. In short the lucky guys is one of Mapua and myself.

Honesty maganda ang Engn sa UB during my time mga terror kaayo ang mga instructor like Mr Tubac / Chew / Salise, calacat etc I'm not sure sa ubang course.

The architecture course pod is good in UB. They have a lot of topnotchers. UB Education did rise, too. They were declared Institutional Topnotcher years ago. The recent Nursing board exam has about 104 passers.

Yeah, Eng has a lot of good teachers. Engr. Jes Tirol, who used to be the dean was an Isko. He kept on referring to his UP days and what the teachers were like and how their training was like. He wanted the training to be the same... i guess. (Only that the teacher are more caring and understanding in UB. hehehe!)

Though wala ko mag eskwela sa Bohol sa college,maayo ang impression sa mga Engineering products sa UB.. even here sa gawas kong gikan sa Bohol, ang mga engineers gikan man sa UB.

Usa sa mga good product sa UB is my own brother-in-law who was the 7th placer in the Board Exam for Electrical Engineers ( not certain with the year kong kanus-a to)...
