Taking Care of Disabled Pet
« on: July 20, 2012, 06:21:56 AM »
John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Watch out Mr. Hare, this tortoise has a wheel.

A 12-year-old African tortoise that recently had its front left leg amputated due to injury is now moving just fine, thanks to a swiveling wheel attached to his shell by doctors at Washington State University's veterinary hospital.

The 23-pound tortoise, named Gamera after the giant flying turtle of the old Japanese monster movies, is gaining weight and generally thriving with his new appendage.

"I don't know whether he'd pass the hare, but he moves around very well," said Charlie Powell, spokesman for WSU's veterinary hospital in Pullman, Wash.

The nearly teenage mutant turtle is particularly good at moving toward food, and has gained 3 pounds since the wheel was attached, Powell said.

The caster-style wheel should last for years before it has to be replaced, he said.

Powell said the caster-style allows Gamera to move well on both flat and lumpy surfaces like lawns.

Winky the three legged Mediterranean tortoise has had a new specially designed wheel and suspension system fitted to her shell. Her new wheel allows her to go off-road on boggy areas of her enclosure at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, England. The tortoise was given to Longleat in 2002 after her lack of manoeuvrability led to a decline in health. On arrival she was given a plastic wheel but it wore out and buckled over time as she tried to access rougher parts of her enclosure. "She actually flies about now. It's given her more ground clearance. She's now got off road wheels so she can go anywhere," said Simon England who supplied the wheel.

One of Earth's slowest moving mammals just got a lot faster as Zookeepers in Jerusalem Biblical Zoo strapped wheels onto the bottom of a tortoise. The ten-year-old African Spurred Tortoise, named Arava, received her new set of wheels after suffering from a rare medical condition that paralyzed her two hind legs. While veterinarians worked to treat the animal's condition they were unable to restore the use of her hind legs and therefore resorted to a more creative approach. (08/19/08)

Coty, our African Sulcatta tortoise, was partially paralyzed after a dog attack. We helped him walk again by taping toy cars under his shell.

kahibawo pa lang ko ani sa una di unta mamatay ug ingon ato akong eyon nga si colette.  gikutkot intawon ug ilaga sa banyo ang iyang siko, arang siyagit.  adtong panahona pa ko nakadungog ug siyagit ug eyon nga gisakitan; it was haunting.  as usual cry-cry ko sa kaluoy ug ka-helpless nako.

pag-ingon sa among papa nga himoon unta niyag ash tray ang shell, nakarason kog siyagit ug ako.  sige, sige, di na lang, ingon si fafa dear.  atong ilubong ug tarong, unya atong tawgon si monsignor [name of tagbilaran bishop at the time].
