Are you in favor if the government will give a mandate that all men and women should serve the military for 3 years once they reach 18 just like what others country are doing? After 3 years, they can opt to have honorably discharge from service and pursue their dreams.

I agree with this proposal. We need to revive and redevelop the spirit of patriotism amongst our people more particularly the new and the next generations to come. Gone were the days when patriotism was in every hearts of the Pilipino people.

for me lang, being a military means you know what discipline is all about. most people who experienced becoming a military knows courage, discipline, integrity and patriotism compared to those who are university and college degree holders. im not saying that those who are university and college educated doesn't possess those traits but it's their thinking towards those traits are a bit different compared to those who came from the military.

if all people will have at least know those things maybe we can see less lazy people, less corrupt officials and lesser crimes. countries who are doing this kind of thing are not really struggling and they doesn't have hard time policing their people.

bnc how about those military that are involved in holdups and robberies. they have courage but where is the discepline and integrity.

kanang mga na involve sa crimes nong linday part lang na sila sa mga tawo walay hunahuna. ug pipila lang man pud sila compared sa mga nagtinarong. nangataktak pud na sila kay ang pagsulod nila sa military personal agenda lang dili for the country.

hinuon they can twist the truth but i still believe the toughness, courage and integrity of a military man. i've been longing to become a military since I was  kid but my parents didn't want me to since im the eldest and they wanted me to pursue another career. if given a chance, i will still wanted to become a military.

I've considered it. The United States has a program for medical students; where upon graduation from medical school--if the graduate signs up for the Medical Corp in the United States Army, he or she will start of as a Lieut. in the corp. The United States Army will "forgive" all loans for Medical School, which means about $200,000-$300,000 worth of Medical School loan debt will be covered.

The Corp will grant the physician-soldier a pay rate of $80,000 starting. Complete coverage.

And if the physician-surgeon finishes active duty, can proceed to private/public practice. With no debt, and comes out experienced in battlefield care.

I have a classmate who is already in this program; his tuition is completely covered; expenses covered and the US Army not only pays for his tuition, expenses, but also gives him a monthly stipend of $2000.

A good deal, I think.

The detractory aspect is the difference in pay, tho.

A physician who completes medical training, completes his residency and is offered an Attending position can make anywhere from $300,000-$400,000 (ER,InternalMed,Radio,FamPrac) or from $700,000-1Million + (General Surgery/Orthopaedics/NeuroSurg)

So,

Naturally a pay in the corp of $80,000 is a huge pay cut as compared to what he/she will be making in private service.

But depends on the individual; depends on their particular area of expertise.

In the private sector, we are in demand for more general medical care; in the Armed Forces--they are in demand of Surgeons, and specialties.
