When I was in college, uso kaayo tong Levis 501, I was obsessed with getting a pair. It seemed that everyone had one, ako ra ang wala. I wanted it so bad pero dili man ko ka afford kay wala man ko'y kuarta.

Then pag abot na nako dire, nag shopping mi sa akong cuzin sa Gilroy, CA, where the outlet stores are ridiculously cheap, esp. with their season sale prices. When we went to the Levi's store, I saw that they had their 501's at 75% off! I didn't buy one. To this day, wala pa gyud katilaw ning akong sampot ug Levi's.

I realized that I wanted those jeans before because I knew I couldn't afford it. When we can't have something, we want it more. Do we want something because we really, truly want it? Or do we merely want it because we know we can't?

it is craving out of fad...what i would like to drive is to use this line to motivate people in working for what they really what to get in life and wanting what they have for a continuous need... for a long term...for if this want is shortlived... the efforts would become senseless....

Here's a poem by Nikki Giovanni, an African American Poet. Many many years ago, this used to be my favorite poem because it really pierced my heart. (saddist!!! ha ha! ) It spoke loudly what I felt inside. It's a sad poem but it speaks of realities- the limited choices we have in this journey we call life.

@Mr Junayag: I remember a line from Coelho's The Alchemist, "If you want something bad enough, all the universe conspires for you to get it", or somewhere along those lines. Sorry kung dili nko ma quote word for word, dugay na to nga panahon. Anyways, I agree. If someone truly wants something, he will do everything in his power to get it. If he doesn't pour his heart and soul into getting it, then it must mean he doesn't want it that bad, does it?

@Ms Melrose: I so loved the poem, bisan heartbreaking kaayo basahon. We can't make someone love us. Sad...but true. Mao na mo agree pud ko ni Ms Melrose, there are some things in life, that although we want soooo bad, we just can't have. Esp. if our "want" involves other people, then getting what we want becomes subject to the laws of the universe. It is out of our hands.

Getting what one wants is taking action to accomplish one's objective, irrespective of whether this is a want or a need. Wanting what one gets is contentment with one's situation in life, some people would call it complacency.

Mr. Jun Ayag, what I do in life is nothing and pales in comparison to what you, my fellow kababayans are able to do. To have that gut motivation to work abroad---and away from your loved ones, friends, families, for such an extended period of time. So that you can provide sustenance and income for family back home in the Philippines. To me, that is the ultimate sacrifice, and anything I do in my life will never ever be as great as that. The Filipina who goes to Europe to work as a domestic worker--and stays there for several months--so she can provide for her family back in the Pilipinas---to me, is humbling and very inspiring. I hear alot of that from the stories what my mum and aunties tell me---and it really does put you back into reality. I would like to someday have that kind of DEDICATION to family and life--as you guys do. You, my Boholano compatriots of TB, are abroad working--

You all should be praised by the children of OFWs, such as myself, for the hard work, and sacrifice you made to provide a better life for your children etc. To me.........that in itself is very powerful.
