Floremie, at least makaingon ka nga unique imong pangalan, bisan wala tujoa, he he.

Diha koy nahibaw-an nga gipangitaan og birth certificate unja kay nasunog man diay ilang munisipyo some time after her birth, mao to nga gidali-dali nija og pa-change ijang ngalan.

Dili problema ang pronunciation, as long as dili mahimong kataw-anan paminawon.  :)

Nindot jud bitaw tinuod. Medjo arte ug hilas to sija. Naunsa mang pagkaunsaa nga diha man ud mi klasmeyt nga lalaki nga Sofronio. Kon moagi gani si Vanessa a.k.a.

This is a common last name in a Cebu town. I had two friends in college with this last name.

but eventually, i came to terms with it when i graduated high school. my name after all, is beautiful if one thinks of it in its pure meaning and not those associated with Rosanna Roces´movie and all.

Hi Ligaya. The off-color association of you name is most unfortunate, but that belonged in your early youth and its ephemeral pop-culture context. Your name is for the rest of your life, and it's a beautiful name indeed. Cheers!

I had a Tagalog teacher in Botany who had yet to learn a single Visayan word. At roll call, she would recite our last names except Isaias'. She would just call out his first name, unya moyuhom. Later, when she became very fluent in Binisaya, she told me the reason why. Had she mentioned Isaias' last name, mobuto gyud kuno siya og kinatawa.

Na, ako nahibaw-an Circumcision nga tuli raman.

Ngano kaha no nga daghan man kataw-anan apelyido.

We had a neighbor named Leticia. Gianggaan bitaw na siya sa iyang mama og masculine sounding name (Titing), which is also the nickname of my uncle's younger brother.  So I started calling her Tetchie pagka dalaga na niya. Nalipay. The name stuck.

Gi review pa man ni nga issue kay dili mosugot ang League of Cities of the Philippines nga mapun-an sila kay mogamay man ang IRA share sa ilang members kon magkadaghan ang mga member cities. By the way, pag-uli nako sa Bohol, na realize nako unsa jud diay kadaghan sa mga apelyido didto sa Leyte nga gikan og Bohol, like Sanguenza, Posas, Belarmino, Soria, Cuaresma, Palma, Labastida, Lagumbay, etc.

Naa man gud mi baryo diri nga grabe mo angga og mga bata. Must have been some article. Makalingaw bitaw ning mga angga, especially those nga strong ang local color. Stories behind nicknames make for a fascinating study. Crispulo tingali to ijang tinuod ngalan, or something.

Our eldest and only girl is named after her grandmothers (Carolette and Lucita) and initially we thought of it as CAROLUCI (say, carolosi). However, we finally settled to spell her name as CAROLUZZI (say, caro-lutchie) since it was the year Lady Diana died after being chased in the streets of Paris by Paparazzi. Her nickname is CAROTZ.

Our second child, a boy, got his name straight from a book of names. We gave him the names Lance (which means warrior) and Howell (which means lordly) making it LANCE HOWELL (Lordly Warrior). Incidentally, my name starts with H and my wife's starts with L. His nickname is CABBAGE.

We intended to name our third child, another boy, in honor of his great-great grandfathers (Diego and Miguel, mother side; Nicasio and Agapito, father side). Acknowledging the ordeal of a small child writing a very long full name "Diego Miguel Nicasio Agapito Yap Lagunay" at school, we decided to shorten his name to DIGNITY. His nickname is BROCCOLI.

At this point we have come to collectively refer to our children as CHOPSUEY.

Five years later, a fourth one came and its another boy again. We first decided that his nickname should be RADISH. Hence, we gave him the name KONRAD (as in Konrad Adenauer of Germany). Deciding to give him a second first name in honor of his grandfathers (Baning and Liani), we coined the name VALIANT. His final name: VALIANT KONRAD.

Naa pud diay Norwegian nga creative sa kabuang, he he.

 Norway's Longest Name?

According to Norwegian site VG Nett, bus driver Andreas Jankov has formally changed his name to Julius Andreas Gimli Arn MacGyver Chewbacka Highlander Elessar-Jankov. "I wanted to show that it is possible to be serious and at the same time take the name you like," said the film enthusiast. "I wanted to see how far I could take it with respect to the number of names. I started thinking about this three years ago and it was approved in January this year." Apparently, he's had his passport and bank card reissued, but the name was too long so he dropped "Highlander."

Thanks to our commenters, we've been able to break down the name:

- Julius is an homage to the famous chimp at the Kristiansand Zoo
- 'Arn' is a Swedish knight movie
- Elessar and Gimli are from 'Lord of the Rings'
- 'MacGyver', just the greatest Richard Dean Anderson show ever!
- 'Highlander' could refer to either the movie or TV show
- Chewbacka (aka Chewbacca) is from 'Star Wars'

So, When/If he gets married will he make his wife take his name?

My daughter's name is Lourisse...a combination of me and my wife's name.
But instead of using the first syllable of our name like what most parent do, we used the "sound" of the last syllable.

The 10 Most Unusual Celebrity Baby Names of 2009
By Sarah Lipoff

Celebrities have set a high bar when it comes to wince-worthy baby names. Who could forget classics like Moxie Crimefighter (daughter of Penn and Emily Jillette) and Kal-El (son of Nicholas and Alice Kim Cage)?

This year is no less memorable than years past, when it comes to our stars and the blazing baby trails they leave in their wake. Some first-timers welcomed in their babies by giving them a name to remember (Echo Hexum). Others added to their already attention-getting clan: Erykah Badu, mother of Puma and Seven has added Mars to the triumvirate, while Chef Jamie Oliver, father of Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo, added to his whimsical genetic treasure chest a daughter named Petal Blossom Rainbow. But there’s more, so much more.

Here’s our list of the most unusual celebrity baby names for 2009.

1. Mars Merkaba

Daughter of Erykah Badu and Jay Electronica. After tweeting through her labor (Mars was delivered by a midwife born at home with no drugs) Badu sent out a message on Twitter that she was going to name her new daughter Twitty Milk. That did not happen, but Mars Merkaba did. Though Badu hasn’t discussed the name’s origin, “Mars,” in addition to being a planet, is the Roman god of war, and “Merkaba” is Hebrew for “stone-chariot of god.” Arrange those meanings as you will.

2. Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver

Daughter of Chef Jamie Oliver and his wife, Jools. No explanation of the name was given, but considering her sisters’ names are Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo, we’re guessing he’s just sticking with the whole Naked Chef/natural/garden theme.

3. Sparrow James Midnight Madden

Son of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. There seems to be a code to break when it comes to Nicole and Joel’s kids. Their daughter, Harlow Kate Winter Madden was born in January, the middle of winter, hence, the second to last name. Sparrow was born in the middle of the night, so we’ve got the Midnight part down. The rest of the code -- specifically, “Sparrow” -- we’re still working on breaking.

4. Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman

Son of Rapper M.I.A. (real name Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam) and musician Benjamin Bronfman (aka Benjamin Brewer). Ikhyd was one of the biggest hot-button names of the year, because when first announced by M.I.A., the general public thought she was naming her boy Ickitt. She addressed the media through her blog, “MY BABY IS NOT CALLED ICKITT, PICKIT OR LICKIT THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL THE HOLLYWOOD PRESS. HES A BABY, HE DONT NEED PRESS!” She did not give any hints to the meaning of Ikhyd, but “Arular” is the code name her political activist father adopted for himself while fighting for the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka, as well as the title of her debut album. “Edgar” is his paternal grandfather’s name (Edgar Bronfman Jr., who is CEO of Warner Music Group).

5. Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa

Son of Lilakoi Moon (aka Lisa Bonet) and boyfriend Jason Momoa. Momoa explained the Hawaiian origin in a forum on his official fan site, jasonmomoa.com: “He was born on the stormest, rainy night. so Nakoa(warrior)...Mana(strength/spirit) Kaua(rain) po(dark)...”

6. Java Kumala Holloway

Daughter of “Lost” star Josh Holloway and his wife, Yessica Kumala. Yessica was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is located on the island, Java.

7. Dreavyn Kingslee

Son of Billy Martin (Good Charlotte) and Linzi. No word on its origin, and when it comes to the Social Security Administration’s list of most popular baby names (www.ssa.gov) perhaps not surprisingly Dreavyn doesn’t have an entry.

8. Atlas Heche Tupper

Son of Anne Heche and James Tupper. In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan who bore the weight of the heavens on his shoulders. He joins his older brother, 7-year-old Homer, in a classical-friendly household.

9. Bandit Lee Way

Daughter of Gerard Way (of My Chemical Romance) and wife Lin-Z (of Mindless Self Indulgence). No explanation was given and this one’s just a little too out there for us to even speculate.

10. Gunnar Flowers

Son of Brandon Flowers (The Killers) and his wife, Tana. Flowers said that he wanted a tough name for his child that “combats against Flowers.”

Worth Mentioning

Though not as far out as the above set, these names still made our list for most unusual this year.

1. Stella Luna, daughter of Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy) and husband, Chris Ivery.

2. Echo Hexum, daughter of Nick Hexum (311) and his wife, Nikki.

3. Lou Sulola Samuel, daughter of Heidi Klum and Seal.

4. Blaise Ray, son of Amanda Beard (Olympic swimmer) and her husband and fellow swimmer, Sacha Brown.

5. Bardot Vita Boreanaz, daughter of actors David Boreanaz and Jaime Bergman.

6. West Flynn, daughter of Marley Shelton and Beau Flynn.

7. Roman Stylianos Gianopoulos and Adele Georgiana Gianopoulos, twins (boy and girl, respectively) born to Molly Ringwald and her husband, Panio Gianopoulos.

8. Goldie Priya, daughter of Ione Skye and Ben Lee.

9. Jett Hamilton, son of Jill Scott and Lil John Roberts.

10. Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.
