Culture and Violence
« on: August 23, 2008, 12:53:06 PM »
To what extent do you believe Violence to be a part of Culture? For instance, can we say that a culture is violent? OR is Violence some sort of extraordinary thing, outside of Culture?

This is an argument that has formed within anthropology and History, where some believe that Violence is harbored within a specific culture. Empiricist Historians would, perhaps, suggest that German culture in certain periods was filled with violence. Others believe that this is a misconception and that there is no connection between culture and violence, they are mutually exclusive.

What is your view on the matter?

I believe culture has something to do with violence. Like for example in some of the Arab countries where men castigate their women when women dont want to marry them or something...for them women, its normal but for us it is a crime.

Islam is just a very violent religion. Muslims either they be in Africa, Middle East, Southern Thailand, Indonesia and even in the southern Philippines are too extremist in their actions.

It is inexplicably said in the Q'uran that to kill one's self is a grave sin. Yet there are suicide bombers who blow themselves up so that they can kill innocents.

In Israel, In Iraq, In Afghanistan, in the Philippines, in Spain, in Britain etc.

Wrong, Islam was never a violent religion, only the people who misinterpret the Quran are the ones are violent.
