Department of Education (DepED) officials here reiterated their warning against public school administrators and parent-teacher associations (PTA) against the collection of school fees during the enrolment period.
Enrolment for public elementary and secondary schools in the province are extended until Friday this week.
Bohol Schools Division Superintendent Cerina Bolos and Tagbilaran City Interim Schools Division Superintendent Elpidio Jala both made their warnings last Monday, when classes in public schools opened.
In fact, DepED Secretary Jesli Lapus issued a department order, DepED Order No. 32, s. 2007, stating the General Guidelines for the Opening of Classes.
Both education officials here said that school heads who do not abide by the DepED Order can be held administratively liable.
To ensure that schools abide by these guidelines, all school heads are required to submit a letter of compliance to the two division superintendents.
The division superintendents in turn are required to report to the office of the regional director. These compliance reports will be reviewed and consolidated by the DepEd undersecretary for regional operations.
Violators will be dealt pursuant to DepED Order No. 49, s. 2006, the Revised Rules of Procedure of the DepED in Administrative Cases.
According to Bolos, schools may collect fees as agreed by the PTA. These fees should be voluntary in nature.
However, collection of fees should not be used as a precondition for the enrolment of a student, Bolos added, likewise, it could be done after the enrolment period, she said.
