Five Filipinos who recently graduated from US military schools, including the first Filipina to graduate in a foreign miltary academy, will be assigned at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) for six months.

The new graduates, now commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army and the Air Force and Ensign in the Navy, are composed of 2nd Lt. Mario Mendoza (Air Force), 2nd Lt. Mario Feliciano, 2nd Lt. Christy “Ice” Achansar, Ensign Carl Roy Catalan, Ensign John Amando Berjuega.

Mendoza graduated from the US Air Force Academy in Monument, Colorado; Feliciano and Alchansar finished their four-year military schooling at the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point in New York; while Catalan and Berjuega both graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

During their call to Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief, Gen. Alexander Yano at the AFP headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo today, the five declared their readiness to serve the military.

And they've e got what they wished for. Within this month, Yano ordered the five junior officers to report their first assignment at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City.

“These five new officers and fresh graduates from the foreign service academies, all from the United States, will initially be assigned to the PMA for a period of six months for the purpose of imparting what they have learned and have experienced during their cadetship in the United States,” Yano said. -- Jaime Laude
