2 YOUNG BOHOLANAS IN TIANJIN, CHINA FOR INTERNATIONAL MATH OLYMPIAD, AUGUST 9 TO 13, 2009[/img]
Message: 2 young Boholanas set to join China math olympiad
Two (2) young Boholanas had been officially identified to be among the Philippine representatives to the 2009 China Primary Math Olympiad scheduled in Tianjin City, China on August 9 to 13, 2009. They are 12-year-old AJ Wincielou Johanna A. Gabin and 10-year-old Eloisa Jean S. Remoreras, products of the Mathematics Teachers Guild (MTG) – Bohol Center.
Gabin, a Grade 6 pupil of Holy Spirit School when she first joined the MTG training program sessions last school year, is now a first year HS student at the Tagbilaran City Science High School (TCSHS). She is the only child of Engr. Jerome John J. Gabin and Fiel Angeli E. Araoarao. On the other hand, Remoreras, presently a Grade 5 pupil of the Victoriano D. Tirol – Advanced Learning Center (VDT-ALC), is the eldest child of Engr. Emerito Remoreras and Josefina Sarmiento. They have been selected from the many qualifiers and alternates from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao who endured and showed impressive performance during the one month intensive MTG – Philippines training at the DEECO Technological Institute in Pasig City from April 15 to May15, 2009.
Other members of the Philippine delegation are students from San Beda College-Alabang (Muntinlupa City), Southville International School (Las Piñas City), Colegio de San Agustin (Biñan, Laguna), Philippine Institute of Quezon City, Philadelphia School (Quezon City), Maximo Estrella Elementary School (Makati City), Integrated Montessori Center (Taguig City), Tenement Elementary School (Taguig City), St. Stephen's High School (Manila), St. Elizabeth Seton School (Imus, Cavite), Solomon Integrated School (Iloilo City), Trinity Christian School (Bacolod City), Integrated Montessori Center (Taguig) City, Grace Christian College (Quezon City), Zamboanga Chong Hua High School (Zamboanga City), Ateneo de Davao University (Davao City), Blessed Lights International Christian Academy (Naga City), La Salle Academy (Iligan City), Kong Hua School (Cagayan de Oro City), St. Simon Montessori School (Calamba City), St. John's Institute (Bacolod City), Pasig Catholic College (Pasig City), Silliman University (Dumaguete City), West Visayas State University (Iloilo City), Philippine Cultural College (Manila), Cavite School of Life (Bacoor, Cavite), Guinobatan East Central School (Guinobatan, Albay), St. Augustine's School (Iba, Zambales), Iloilo Central Commercial High School (Iloilo City), Xavier School (San Juan City), SPED - ISEC (Iloilo City), St. Stephen's High School (Manila), Children Intergrated School of Alta Tierra ( Iloilo City), and Iloilo Central Commercial High School (Iloilo City). MTG’s PIO Man Fai Anthony Ang, will accompany the group as team leader of the Philippine delegation.
Moreover, fellow trainees Timothy Carlo Racho (Bohol International Learning Center) and James Okusa (VDT-ALC) have also been chosen for Singapore’s international math competition and China’s high school level math olympiad, respectively. All four (4) of them had been under Dr. Jose Ceberte and Omar Remendado in the MTG-Bohol Center, one of the 37 centers in the entire country. MTG trainees had given honor to the Philippines after winning in international math competitions held in the United States of America, Canada, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, India and other countries, while at the same time they explored boundless possibilities to enhance their mathematical ability and giftedness.
