On the looming death of Friendster, Max Chafkin posed these 10 Questions for Friendster Founder, Jonathan Abrams.
By Max Chafkin (Inc. Magazine, June 2007 Edition)What's your favorite part of a typical day? After midnight, when people stop calling me. It's when I get to do some real work, programming on my laptop while I watch my TiVo (NASDAQ:TIVO). Usually I watch The Office, 24, America's Next Top Model, or some trashy reality TV.
What skill would you most like to improve?Probably my skill at answering questions.
What's the accomplishment you are most proud of?Opening my bar last September. It was a lot of work and it was something new for me.
Who is the smartest person you know?
I've only met her once, but I'd say Paris Hilton because she gets people to pay her for showing up at their parties.
What's the least glamorous thing you do regularly in the line of duty?
Reviewing legal documents.
What keeps you up at night?I'm Jewish, so I worry about everything.
Who gives you the best advice about your business?
I don't think I have ever received great business advice. The best advice I've gotten has been from myself: looking at my mistakes and trying to avoid them the next time.
If you could go back in time and do one thing differently in your business, what would it be?
I think you already know the answer to that.
What do you look for in an employee?I look for somebody who is hungry, scrappy, passionate, and connected to what we do.
What's the simplest thing you've never learned to do?To dance. Did you ever see the episode of Seinfeld where Elaine dances? That's pretty much me.
