The Bohol ChronicleAlbur Mayor Jose Ugdoracion issued Friday an ultimatum to stop the construction of a cluster sanitary landfill.
It was known by Ugdoracion that representatives of the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) came last week for the second round of payments to lot owners affected by the landfill in barangay Danggay.
The cluster sanitary landfill that will host at least 9 other towns is being opposed by Albur residents as it is situated in an aquifer, a water source for the municipal waterworks system supplying five barangays.
The mayor said he is giving until August 4 for the PTA, one of the project's proponents and funding agency, to answer his queries on the validity of the projectimplementation even without a municipal ordinance and an environmental impact assessment.
"If the PTA insists in pursuing the landfill construction," the mayor said he "will be constrained to exercise his executive powers" and issue a closure order.
Next week, a team from the Ecological Governance (Ecogov) will be visiting Albur to conduct a dialogue with residents regarding the hosting of a common landfill facility which includes the towns of Loon, Maribojoc, Corella, Baclayon, Loay, Dauis, Panglao and Albur.
