Reintegration program of former rebels backed by AID
Quezon City (25 June 2005) -- The reintegration program of former rebels from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) received praises and was promised funding assistance by the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID) says U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick.

In a recent state visit to the Philippines, Zoelick praised the government's strategy of reintegrating the former rebels into society after a successful signing of agreement in 1996. The project was further encouraged by Zoelick by promising more funding for assistance projects by AID.

"I have a good report from the AID mission about efforts to help integrate these people back into the developmentn of the society," Zoellick said.

Zoellick further stressed that the United States and the Philippines share the same concerns about global terrorism. He revealed that the Philippines is the second largest recipient of US funding assistance in the South East Asia after Indonesia.
