SP Lagas supports creation of MTC
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Oct. 2 2002 (PNA) -- Sangguniang
Panlalawigan (SP) Member Leonardo Lagas last week supported the move
of the Provincial Tourism Council (PTC) for the creation of the
Municipal Tourism Council (MTC) in all the 16 municipalities in the
province to serve as the implementing arm of projects and tourism
related programs in their respective locality.
Lagas passed a resolution requesting Provincial Governor George
Hofer through the Provincial Tourism Council to encourage the
creation of the MTC in the 16 towns in consonance with the national
program of the Department of Tourism (DOT).
The establishment of the MTC will enhance and promote the programs
of the DOT particularly the Visit Philippines 2003.
Lagas was one of the participants of the First Inter-Municipal Tour
held from September 20-22 in at least six municipalities in the
province.
His resolution was an offshoot of the present burden being
undertaken by the PTC in identifying prospective tourist attraction
places in the province and recommend for possible funding through the
Philippine Tourism Authority.
The PTC has already identified several tourist attraction areas
during their 1st Inter-Municipal Tour and will recommend the same to
the Department of Tourism Regional Office in Zamboanga City through
the Provincial Tourism Office.
Being the SP Council Chairman on Tourim, Lagas said he
will support all the programs of the Tourism Office and the councils
to be created. (PNA)
