Women chant slogans and wave signs during a demonstration for the prevention of violence against women in Istanbul, Turkey. Women's rights groups staged simultaneous protests in various Turkish cities in support of the Istanbul Convention on domestic violence against women. The Istanbul Convention is an international agreement for the prevention of violence against women. Forty six countries signed the agreement started by the European Council in 2011. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was the first signatory to the convention, however the government's stance has since changed with some government officials calling for Turkey to withdraw from the treaty claiming that it undermines family values. The government is expected to make a decision on weather to withdraw from the agreement on August 13. | August 5, 2020 | Chris McGrath | #GettyImages25
