BAKERSFIELD—Several men in dark suits and dark glasses with earpieces harassed the Inquirer and ABS-CBN reporters covering an Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) church dedication service here.

As this correspondent and ABS-CBN reporter Steve Angeles waited on a public walkway in front of the INC compound at Mount Vernon in this city, the men kept staring at us.

INC Executive Minister Eduardo V. Manalo, who is in the United States for a series of pastoral visits, was leading the dedication service.

Angeles heard some of them remark, “biased ABS-CBN” and “boycott ABS-CBN.”

“A group of them followed us as we made our way to my car,” Angeles told this reporter.

This correspondent asked them, “Why are you following us?” The three men did not respond, instead one of them told the others, “Why are we following them daw.”

In Manila, INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala issued a statement saying: “We are thankful that another house of worship in California was added to the Iglesia Ni Cristo for our brethren in the USA. We are also thankful that Brother Eduardo V. Manalo continues to conduct pastoral visitations to strengthen the spiritual life of INC members around the world.”

“The stunt you may be referring to was by a small group of ex-INC members desperate for attention. And based on their message it is clear who their leader is.” With Jocelyn Uy

it is not for the INC authorities to give an inch to those "men in black" in their midst who are not part of them, as referred to in the statement of the spokesperson.  does this guy really believe that the reading public can be so easily swayed by his shallow damage control?
