The Philippines announced on Sunday they will move all Filipinos who wish to leave Thailand to Chiang Mai, and arrange to fly them home.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ordered the foreign affairs department to repatriate hundreds of Filipinos stranded by the closure of the two Bangkok airports.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita told newsmen that Mrs Arroyo released $15,000 in emergency funds to help the stranded Filipinos.
Foreign Undersecretary Rafael Seguis said at least 509 Filipinos were stranded in Bangkok, staying in different hotels or other lodging. They will be taken to Chiang Mai by bus, he added. - Bangkok Post
