SAINI SUNPURA, India (AP) -- A baby with two faces was born in a northern Indian village, where she is doing well and is being worshipped as the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess, her father said Tuesday.

The baby, Lali, apparently has an extremely rare condition known as craniofacial duplication, where a single head has two faces. Except for her ears, all of Lali's facial features are duplicated -- she has two noses, two pairs of lips and two pairs of eyes.

"My daughter is fine -- like any other child," said Vinod Singh, 23, a poor farm worker.

Lali has caused a sensation in the dusty village of Saini Sunpura, 25 miles east of New Delhi. When she left the hospital, eight hours after a normal delivery on March 11, she was swarmed by villagers, said Sabir Ali, the director of Saifi Hospital.

"She drinks milk from her two mouths and opens and shuts all the four eyes at one time," Ali said.

Rural India is deeply superstitious and the little girl is being hailed as a return of the Hindu goddess of valor, Durga, a fiery deity traditionally depicted with three eyes and many arms.

Up to 100 people have been visiting Lali at her home every day to touch her feet out of respect, offer money and receive blessings, Singh told AP.

"Lali is God's gift to us," said Jaipal Singh, a member of the local village council. "She has brought fame to our village."

Village chief Daulat Ram said he planned to build a temple to Durga in the village.

"I am writing to the state government to provide money to build the temple and help the parents look after their daughter," Ram said.

Lali's condition is often linked to serious health complications, but the doctor said she was doing well.

"She is leading a normal life with no breathing difficulties," said Ali, adding that he saw no need for surgery.

Lali's parents were married in February 2007. Lali is their first child.

Singh said he took his daughter to a hospital in New Delhi where doctors suggested a CT scan to determine whether her internal organs were normal, but Singh said he felt it was unnecessary.

"I don't feel the need of that at this stage as my daughter is behaving like a normal child, posing no problems," he said.

Luuy kaayo ang baby. I'm just wondering if the compacted facial growth will somehow affect neurological growth. I wonder if there will be an impairment of proper growth and closure of the frontal, parietal and occipital bones. Due the baby's dual facial feature, no doubt there must be an alteration in design to her coronal and saggital suture. These areas, if improperly closed or distorted can impair the growth of the primary somatic cortex located near the sagittal suture, the impairment of not only the pre-motor cortex, but the pre-frontal cortex and with that, inhibit or decrease the ability of growth in the broca's area. Ang result ani would be decreased mental ability. Ang importante kaayo is proper formation of an infant's neural system.

Pero one can only hope the best for this little baby. Luuy kaayo intawn.

Luuy lang kaayo ang baby no? You know what really touched me in this article? It's when her father said that she is "God's blessing" to them. Amen! Amen! I completely agree jud that every child, is always a blessing from On High.

The love that a baby has for his/her mother and father is pure love. Innocent love.

This is called Partial Duplication; trisomy, in Genetics.

We touched into this during Genetics and Development; its nothing more than an abnormality within the human chromosome, specifically:

There is a 15q25.1-qter trisomy associated with a subtle 13qter monosomy resulting from unbalanced segregation of a familial t(13;15)(q34;q25.1) translocation.

There was some damage within the 09q to the 20q arm of the chromosome; which is responsible for proper formation of the physiology of the organism (within the continuum of Animalia; ergo human, duck, elephant, bird, etc).

To simplify it, there was a pragmatic alteration within the translationionary processes, and with translation affected, elongation of the chromosome and transcription of the specific genes within a chromosome are thus either hindered, inhibited, and or altered.

This 'opaque' genetic degeneracy seems minimal in the molecular level; but such transformations is multiplied 10 million fold within the organismal level.

There is no treatment for this; it bears testament to the random character of genetics. Hypothetically, one can intervene to prevent this from happening by genetically intervening in the development of the fetus prior to the reach of the 1st trimester; when fetus is still within the 2-4 week stage. During the zygote and blastocyt stages of development, one can either induce activators or inhibit repressors and/or co-activators to prevent the proliferation of damaged transcripts that are responsible for the manifestation of partial duplication within the organismal level.

The scientific community has already done this on rats; monkeys; etc. But have not yet tried this on the human level.

Hypothetically speaking, there is an answer to this simple yet personal genetic abnormality.

This problem is one we call primary stage genetic degeneracy. A very simple problem that could have been fixed before the complete development of the said organism.

When we studied genetics, I worked with group of students who did genetic experiments on tadpoles, as well as drosophila (fruit flies) that inhibited and altered certain genetic segments of their specific chromosomes.

We were able to either:

1) increase size of tadpole tales
2) increase size of wing size
3) transplant the APR (apical ectodermal ridge) for the drosophila and had their legs develop where their arms were supposed to be; and vice versa.

So there is already genetic proof of inhibition, activators and co-activators, co-repressors that can prevent and solve transcription problems.

The trick to this, is that it is quite delicate when dealing with humans with the fact that it is unethical to experiment on humans. Even if the goal was to save and help a child's development.

Moral violation and ethics violation.

Luoy kaayo ang mga Dalit (or the Untouchables) kay sobra pa sa mga slaves ang pag trato nila. Pinakaluoy ang mga Dalit women. They perform a ceremony where one woman is chosen to be the village's resident prostitute, which means any man in the village can have sex with her. And she can never say No to any man who asks for sex. And she can never get married. She will remain the village's sex slave for the rest of her life. And apprently, they consider this quite an honor in their culture. Ngeks.

How can India call itself a 'Democracy' when it still retains such a barbaric and primordial social system that makes the aristocracy of France seem 'Enlightened'.

How can a nation that prides itself as the 'Largest Democracy In The World' truly be a 'Democracy' when all the rights and privileges of its people are not even secured? When millions of its citizenry still are not given the right to full human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc.

India, truly remains a land of variances.

I had a classmate in my French Revolutionary History class who was an Indian female. Her family came to the United States via the Indian Brain Drain (similar to the Filipino); her father being a physician and her mother being a social worker. Nevertheless, in our conversations in class, she revealed to me that she and her family were Christians. And apparently in India, to be Christian is to be considered an outsider; and were treated unfairly.

There are Hindus cults who even attack Christians and Muslims in India. Through bombings or forced conversions.

A democracy they say. India can never truly be a democracy until it rids itself of such a barbaric social system that is the very antithesis of 'DEMOCRACY'.

They are still practicing arranged marriages by thier parents. There is a famous high cliff in India called "lover's leap", where lovers who can not be married will commit suicide together by jumping.

There was a time in India where poor families were aborting their child if discovered as female. In India, it is the girl's parents who gives dowry (financial gift) to the boy's parents.

India is the most hypocrite nation, were they don't allow kissing in public, yet they have the most number of prostitutes and one of the leading HIV carriers in the world. One time, the actor Richard Gere was forced to do public apology for kissing one Indian actress in front of a large crowd.

Most of the successful Indian's you see in Europe & States are outcast in their own culture and rebuilt their lives in foreign countries. They also wished that they could do something to change the bad culture being practised in thier home country.

I saw a documentary about that in The History Channel, Mr. Ferniz.

I, too, feel like throwing up. They think cow dung is pure and many villages in India use cow dung as soap to clean their dishes after eating.

Mortality rate of infectious diseases in India is high. No wonder why.
