STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- If Barack Obama becomes the next United States president he will surely be assassinated, British Nobel literature laureate Doris Lessing predicted in a newspaper interview published here Saturday.

Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him," Lessing, 88, told the Dagens Nyheter daily.

Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Literature Prize, said it might be better if Obama's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States.

"The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama," she said.

All US presidents are magnet of assasinations so it's not a guarantee that if Obama only becomes a VP, there will be no attempt on his life. I'd go for Obama as the President and Hillary as VP. If Hillary becomes the President, there will be two presidents: it's gonna be Mr. and Mrs. Presidents Clinton!

Go Obama! Bitaw, whoever wins as president is just fine but it would be nice to have Obama otherwise, I'd settle for him as VP.

Politics is not really my main specialty but every land needs a leader. Whoever will be the next President in USA I don't really care as long as he/she will serves his/her country faithfully and do hiis/her best what is good for his fellowmen.

For the Democratic Party, maybe Hillary would accept it if offered to her or maybe not but Edwards is always there to take it. What about the Republican? I don't have a guess.

I had exactly the same horrifying prediction in my head. Obama would be the first US president estranged from the military-industrial complex since the Kennedys, and look what happened to them.
Military-industrial complex: not a tinfoil conspiracy theory, past presidents knew about it and fought against it in vain.

McCain is a moderate candidate, and his policies covers my interests; primarily a more relaxed economy, reduced military spending, though the major problems that I have with him is the fact that he is a War-Hawk that and the fact that he agrees in increasing the strain on Iran and the maintenance of American control in Iraq while leaving domestic control of the region to the Iraqi parliament. I am irritated on that considering the United States has spent almost 1 Trillion US Dollars on this war; and if McCain pursues another offensive or maintains the current situation, this country will bankrupt itself and humiliate the working class.

McCain knows that he isn't right wing enough to capture the votes of the religious right, so therefore it would be of strategic interest for him to take Huckabee into his wing as Vice President candidate, as Huckabee is popular amongst the religious right. McCain would garner the votes of moderate voters, liberterian, right wing militants as well as religious rightists.

As for Obama, I have no idea who he would choose as his running mate. Either Clinton or Edwards.

In my personal opinion, I would not vote for McCain despite similar views. The man is on the verge of geriatric paralysis, and it would be counter to the interest of this country to have him die of either old age or respiratory, neurological problems while in office and while the country is in desperate need of a strong and reliable political figure.

Obama, is my top choice. He is a moderate, a liberterian-esque on economic terms, which will garner some support from moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats. His policies regarding external affairs is reminscent of the Clinton Administration during the epoch of Pax Americanum. When Clinton was in power from 1993-2001, this country experienced an economic boom, a miniscule unemployment rate, peaceful relations with most countries, limited military action, and overall massive domestic improvements. It was during the Bush administration that society was depleted of the Clintonian establishments; that and the fact that Bush brought us to war; and as a result of this protracted war, over 1 Trillion US Dollars have been spent, almost 4,000 US soldiers killed and over 3 divisions of troops (~30,000) were either maimed, injured or missing in action. Military spending right now is massive, this country has purchased over 200 FA-22 raptors (pricing at 200 Million US Dollars each), thousands of Abrams tanks, and building a 4th generation Super Carrier, which has cost this country's tax payers over 50 Billion US dollars. As we speak, dozens of AEGIS destroyers are also being built, price of which ranges from 5-10 billion US dollars each.

The American civilian is being burdened by unecessary tax breaks, which will only benefit the economic elite and not the working class American, this expensive war and the uncontrollable military spending.

This is why we should care. America must be very careful now in choosing the right leader because whatever happens to the economy in USA affects the whole world.

Obama is the top choice, in my college, most of us collegians are pro-Barak Obama. Throughout the entire country, he is popular amongst the new generation. He is the 'fresh air' that this country so desperately needs.

I like Obama because he reminds me of Vespasian, the Roman Emperor. Vespasian was the absolute monarch of Rome during the bleakest times of the Empire, when the eagle of Rome was engaged in brutal wars in pacifiying Germania, the Visigoths, the Dacians in the east, the Parthians in the far east, and the Numidians in the south. Rome, at the time before he was crowned Emperor, was on the verge of economic collapse; and military starvation due to the thousands of Legions spread throughout the Empire. Rome knew no peace since the age of Pax Romana during the time of Augustus the Great.

Vespasian, changed that. He was young, brilliant, a man of the people, and talked about the "Greatness of Rome", the "Rebuilding of Rome." And he did just that, under his rule, he conquored Germania and Romanized the region; bringing Roman law, Roman religion, Roman culture throughout the four corners of the Empire. And peace lasted for over 2 centuries, allowing the Empire to last for another quarter of a millenia.

Obama echoes those words. He has talked about rebuilding the "Greatness of America", and shining the "Light of America" in the world.

He is what this Republic, this American Republic needs. New ideas, new plans, aggressive domestic policy. And he, unlike his geriatric counterparts in the Republican party, is not that dilluted in corruption. Obama is young, fierce, full of energy. He is the Vespasian of our era. And I have deep confidence he will usher in a new age for this Great Nation, the awakening of Pax Americana.

At some point, I never thought Hillary would settle the VPship but after their debate before the Super Tuesday, I think that's possible already. On Obama becoming the VP, I think he didn't have problem with that. IMO.

The Republicans were given the chance. For 8 years they ran the presidency, and for 4 years the Republicans dominated the house and senate. What was accomplished? Massive debt through this war, economic collapse, and an unemployment rate that has not been known since the time of Nixon.

The Republicans do not deserve a second chance. They had 8 years. Nothing was gained.

We've fought the war for far too long. Let the Iraqi military do their job. The blood of the American is being shed for unecessary matters. Our men are being used to protect Iraqi ministers and warlords. When did the American die for the lives of those who do not matter to America?

Soldiers should not have to be body guards.

Somewhere in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, California, New Jersey, Tennessee etc, a mother and father grieve for the death of their son, in the far distant desert of Iraq.

Yeah i have seen several parents grieved their son's death, it always break my heart, kay i have a son too and cant think of letting him die for jsut like that...yeah i know they serve the country but in what way?

btw, Obama had a sweeping victory in Virginia, Maryland and DC! As of latest tally, Obama overtook Clinton by 25 delegates with Obama's 1,215. Now, superdelegates is another story.
