North Korea Will Attack the U.S.?
« on: June 20, 2009, 04:07:55 PM »
The US military beefed up defenses in Hawaii on Friday over fears that North Korea could launch a missile toward the Pacific island chain.

The US military also tracked a North Korean ship possibly carrying banned cargo -- the first vessel to be monitored under UN sanctions imposed last week after the Stalinist state carried out an underground nuclear test on May 25.

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday that there were concerns that North Korea might "launch a missile... in the direction of Hawaii."

He said he had approved the deployment of THAAD missile defense weapons to Hawaii and a radar system nearby "to provide support" in case of a North Korean launch. Ground-based defenses in Alaska were also at the ready, Gates added.

"I would just say I think we are in a good position should it become necessary to protect American territory," he said.

The Theatre High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weapons, coupled with the radar system, are designed to shoot down ballistic missiles.

US and South Korean officials have said North Korea might be readying another ballistic missile test after three launches in 1998, 2006 and this year.

Pyongyang said its latest April 5 launch put a satellite into orbit. The United States and its allies labeled it a disguised test of a Taepodong-2 missile theoretically capable of reaching Alaska.

Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper this week quoted Japanese defense ministry sources as saying any new test of North Korea's two or three stage Taepodong-2 missile would probably be fired toward Hawaii even if it could not hit the island chain.

It quoted the ministry as saying the Taepodong-2 has a range of 4,000-6,500 kilometres (2,500-4,000 miles), but that Hawaii is more than 7,000 kilometers from the Korean peninsula.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have been running high since Pyongyang carried out its second nuclear test last month.

A US defense official confirmed that the military has been monitoring a North Korean ship, the Kang Nam, that might be carrying nuclear or missile-related cargo in violation of new UN sanctions. - AFP, Agence France Presse

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Mexico attacked us with Pork Flu but we can combat that with raw ginger garlic and onions but of course the non cooked version.

A poll is taken in my local home town newspaper in the states and the most responses are that America should counter act and detonate this missile.

I hope not also!

The North kors are just angry b/c of the UN's recent imposition of more bans.
hehe, the irony of the situation is that the US gives food aid to the nor-kors.

We're actually keeping them alive. B/c the norkor government uses most of their gnp to maintain their military. The people in nor kor are dying. starving to death.
Many nor kors are smuggling across to china or so. kor for a better life.

Sad indeed.

Its all for show.

this doesnt really concern us right now.
the nor kors have been doing this for a while.

the only reason why this is hitting the media now is because its a media tactic:
to try to turn the attention away from our wailing economy.

Smart move for the media.
hehe, today Dow Jones fell more stocks. just saw it.

Pre-emptive striking (NoKor) the master of pre-emptive strikes (US) ?

Hinaut unta way masala-ag nga missile sa Bohol.  Kay mamista pa ta sunod Mayo.   Hinay hinay na ra ba ug pasumangil neng mga US aircraft carriers ug  padool sa asia pacific sumangil bisita pero positioning na siguro ne.  :)

Serious.  If there is a clear and present danger, definitely uncle Sam would not hesitate to make actions on that part of the globe.    :(

Cheers!

WASHINGTON - North Korea boasted that it has become a "proud nuclear power" and threatened Monday to harm the U.S. if attacked, as tensions mounted over a possible crackdown on exports of suspected missile parts from the North.

President Barack Obama said the U.S. is ready to cope with "any contingencies" involving North Korea and vowed not to "reward belligerence and provocation."

South Korea's YTN news network reported that a U.S. Navy destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of carrying missiles and related parts toward Myanmar in what could be the first test of new U.N. sanctions against the North over its recent nuclear test.

The sanctions toughen an earlier arms embargo against North Korea and authorize ship searches in an attempt to thwart its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have spiked since North Korea defiantly conducted its second nuclear explosion on May 25. It later declared it would expand its atomic bomb program and threatened war to protest the U.N. sanctions imposed in response to its nuclear test.

On Monday, the North's main Rodong Sinmun newspaper said it is "nonsense" to say the country threatens the U.S. and claimed it is Washington that threatens the North. The paper also warned that the country is prepared to strike back if attacked.

"As long as our country has become a proud nuclear power, the U.S. should take a correct look at whom it is dealing with," the paper said. "It would be a grave mistake for the U.S. to think it can remain unhurt if it ignites the fuse of war on the Korean peninsula."

North Korea says its nuclear program is a deterrent against the U.S., which it routinely accuses of plotting to topple its communist regime. The U.S., which has 28,500 troops in South Korea, has repeatedly said it has no such intention and has no nuclear weapons there.

Obama said the U.S. is prepared for any North Korean provocation, including the regime's reported threat to test-launch a long-range missile toward Hawaii.

Japanese media have reported that the North Koreans appear to be preparing for a long-range test timed for about July 4. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has ordered additional protections for Hawaii in case a missile is launched over the Pacific Ocean.

"This administration — and our military is fully prepared for any contingencies," Obama said Friday during an interview with CBS News' Harry Smith, to be broadcast Monday on "The Early Show."

"I don't want to speculate on hypotheticals," Obama said. "But I want ... to give assurances to the American people that the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted in terms of what might happen."

The North's cargo ship, Kang Nam, is expected to travel to Myanmar via Singapore, YTN said, citing an unidentified intelligence source in the South. Myanmar's military government, which faces an arms embargo from the United States and the European Union, has reportedly bought weapons from the North.

The ship is reportedly the first North Korean vessel to be tracked under the new U.N. sanctions.

Two U.S. officials said Thursday that the U.S. military had begun tracking the ship, which left a North Korean port Wednesday and was traveling off the coast of China.

One of the officials said it was uncertain what the Kang Nam was carrying, but that it had been involved in weapons proliferation before. Both spoke on condition of anonymity

U.S. Conflict with North Korea
On June 1, 2009, it was reported that North Korea was moving a long-range missile into place for a launch sometime within the following few weeks. The indications were that the missile was one with a 4,000 mile range, putting Alaska within striking distance. Analysts were concerned that the launch would take place from a northern and previously unused launch site close to the Chinese border. The location is believed to represent a deterrent from any U.S. military strikes to the area. North Korea also issued a "no sail zone" through the end of July, possibly indicating a time frame for the missile launch.Fox News: Reports: N. Korea Prepares Long-Range Missile... (June 1, 2009)

I few years back I was more interested in this topic during the same time the twin towers and the middle east war and all that was going on so was the nuclear preparation of the North Koreans, but everyone was to distracted to pay any real good close attention to it at the time.
