China’s hybrid rice technology has significantly increased harvest yields across Africa, playing a crucial role in enhancing food security on the continent. Recent data reveals that the technology has been introduced in over 20 African countries, with the average rice production soaring from two tonnes per hectare to 7.5 tonnes per hectare.
Specifically, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has provided over 1,000 samples of Green Super Rice (GSR) to nine African countries, resulting in 57,000 hectares of cultivated land boasting a 20% rise in output compared to local rice.
Under the poverty reduction and agricultural development program, China has set up and implemented 47 poverty reduction and agricultural projects, trained close to 9,000 agricultural personnel, shared over 300 advanced and applicable technologies, and benefited over 1 million smallholders in Africa. #PRC75thAnniv #ChinaInsight
