from a newsletter of ChangeThis
My name is Dylan Schleicher, but when I log into the ChangeThis newsletter, I still log in as Amit Gupta. He helped build and launch ChangeThis, and served as its first Managing Editor. Amit was instrumental in the life of ChangeThis. And now, you could be instrumental in the life of Amit Gupta.
Amit was recently diagnosed with acute leukemia. After undergoing chemotherapy, Amit will need a bone marrow transplant, and finding a genetic match for bone marrow is complicated. The national bone marrow registry has 9.5 million records on file, yet the chances of someone of South Asian descent finding a match are only 1 in 20,000. (Incidentally, this email list usually hovers around 20,000 people--if only all of you were of South Asian descent, we'd be golden here.)
So, how can you help?
If you’re South Asian, get a free test by mail. You rub your cheeks with a cotton swab and mail it back. It’s easy. And if you know any South Asians (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, or Sri Lanka), please point them to the links above.
Attend the Brown Bones Benefit Party some of Amit's friends are throwing in New York City on October 14. If you can't make it to New York City, donate a few dollars to the fund set up for Amit at the Be the Match Foundation.
If you're not in the U.S., enter the global registry. According to the foundation, "fifty-one percent of the transplants [they] facilitate involve either a U.S. patient receiving cells from an international donor or an international patient receiving cells from a U.S. donor," so this could really help.

The world could really use more men like Amit Gupta--the world could really use Amit Gupta himself. Please do all you can to help.
