MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) The wives of the two Filipino chefs who had been trapped in the hotel that was attacked by terrorists in Mumbai, India late Wednesday night have been reunited with their husbands, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Esteban Cornejos.
Another Filipino who was hurt has been flown out of that country, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday.
In an overseas phone call by INQUIRER.net, Maria Bugarin, deputy chief of mission in the Philippine embassy in New Delhi, also said the Filipino who was hurt during the attacks left India this morning and made “an expressed request [for us] not to give out his name.â€
Earlier in the day, the Philippine embassy in New Delhi told INQUIRER.net that the wives of the chefs at the Oberoi hotel, one of the terrorists’ targets, were "not hostages."
The chefs and their wives are safe and out of harm's way.
The two Filipinas were visiting their husbands and staying in the hotel when the attacks happened.
Asked if they sounded scared, Bugarin said: "I'm sure that they have some anxieties, but our fellow Filipinos are lending them moral support and the hotel management is keeping in touch with them."(inquirer.net)
