Real-life Drama at Japan's Narita International Airport
« on: April 14, 2009, 01:10:08 PM »
The clicking of dozens of news cameras drowned out the sobs of the 13-year-old girl, but her face explained what was happening in the departure hall of Japan's Narita International Airport.

Noriko Calderon, wearing her school uniform, was being forced to make one of the most wrenching choices of her young life: To stay in the country of her birth rather than join her parents being deported to the Philippines.

The scene was the emotional climax to a story a decade and a half in the making -- one that has tugged at heartstrings in Japan, but ultimately failed to sway to an unyielding bureaucracy that activists say violates human rights.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

I highly respect the daughter´s decision, it is wise and practical and also the harsh reality of our country for youngsters living in poverty; no  future in sight.

Boss,

Looy sab. So unsa man to si Alan hapon o Filipino?   Sa bagay, gi peke nila ila entry sa Japan using fake passport.  So fake Japanese couple to sila?

Fore !

The parent's comments in Japanese are hypocritically self-righteous, "I can't believe they're doing this to us." And both of them entered Japan on fake passports.

I know hundreds of cases of Filipino families who had stayed illegally for years in Japan and bore and raised children here, some of whom like Noriko spoke only Japanese. Being outside the glare of the media lights, the parents were deported in handcuffs and their children were escorted separately to their airplanes. Only those who voluntarily turned themselves in were treated like regular passengers. Not surprisingly, the children settled to life in the Philippines without problem in less than a year.

I see no reason why parents should allow their child to speak only Japanese when they are both Filipinos. The illegals are using this as a leverage for humanitarian consideration, except that in Japan, entering on fake passport is tantamount to illegal entry and is a heavier crime than overstaying.

What a high prize the parents paid for being contrary to Japan law and to escape Philippine poverty!
I feel sorry for the girl being a victim of her parental pseudo life guidance instead bringing her up to a decent education by way of teaching her a bit our own language.  Abi tingali nila ug dili sila masakpan unja  adto na gjod sila molahutay sa tibouk kinabuhi.

Mahadlok baja ang gobiyerno ani sa Japan nga tanan nga mga overstayers (known more popularly here as "bilog", Pinoy coded language from the first letter of the word "overstay") mag-anakay na lang sa usag-usa unja di tudluan ug kaugalingon sinultian aron ipasumangil ang bata nga di na lang paulion sa Pilipinas. Daghan baja kaajo ni sila nga bilog (the US equivalent of TNT) dire sa Japan gikan sa lain-laing nasod.

this should serve as an example to all filipinos out there who are planning to go the same route as the calderons. not just in japan but to other countries that they think will be there escape route to poverty. just remember that only in the philippines you can find a lax place to stay. we do have laws but we are the ones who break the laws for the benefit of other people and we can't do that to other countries.

Hi BNC,

I always look up to people like you who have carved a niche in their profession and adequately provide for their families without leaving home.

The Calderons was a test case on how far the Immigration in Japan will bend back to accommodate illegal immigrants. But their backers and even the UN were pushing the line too far since the family was not only staying illegally, the parents also entered Japan on forged passports. Just imagine if they let them through--they would be swamped by demands from the vast number of illegal immigrants who came in under less "malicious" (to quote the Japan Immigration)  circumstances (e.g. they used their real names and only overstayed, etc.)

BNC, just spread the word around through forums like this that home is still the best place to stay. Despite my own initial apprehensions, I brought my kids home to Tagbilaran last year. They are still adjusting academically, since their main language is Japanese even if they speak Tagalog very well, and are now even starting to learn Visayan. Barely six months later, they're calling Bohol their home. I brought them here to Japan one by one to update some paper requirements as well as see for themselves if they still really want to live in Japan. After just three days, they were pining for Bohol already.

My work is translation. I am still trying to find a way to assure my individual and company clients to just transact and communicate with me by internet, so I could join my kids in Bohol soon.  It may take a little more time, but I will definitely go back home for good.

p.s. niingon kono ang anak nga she didn't know that her parents are Filipinos, gatoo siya pure Japanese siya, karon lang daw niya nahibaw-i nga i-deport na faets!

Swakee salamat sa imong posting, what an illusion to brought up a child this way. This was the parents intentions anyway, and about their coming to Japan with fake passports, I wonder why a high-tech country can not distinguish fakes and real documents. Asa man sila nag pahimo kono? Bright jud ning mga Pinoy. ;D

Manay Tess,

They came to Japan about 17 years ago, way before our machine-readable passports came into existence and way before Japan realized that some Filipinos would use any name they're given as long as they could get a passage out of the country.

Salig man gud kaayo ang mga Hapon kay diri sa ila, kanang gagamit ug fake names, mao ra nang mga miyembro sa Red Army, now probably extinct, and other extremist and terrorist groups. Di sila katoo nga probably half of the 80,000 Pinay entertainers who came to Japan in the heydey of the Japayukis were using fake passports.

Mind you, some of those Filipinas married Japanese and received permanent residency in their fake names (can you imagine this can get through in a high-tech country?). Naa gani mga b***t nagpasex-change after being deported, unya nisud sa Japan otro with new passports as females married to Japanese. Ang uban natagaan na pud permanent residency.

Ang kaapan ron the other year, nag-install sila ug biometric fingerprinting ug eye photo sa Immigration entry point. Katong mga na-deport sa una under aliases, now with children with their Japanese husbands, were blocked at the Immigration.

In fact, the media attention given to this family is OA. There was the intention of deceit from the start on the part of the parents who made their child believe she was a Japanese.

To prevent the use of fake passports, which used to be rampant before, the Philippine government now has issued stringent requirements to foreign consular outposts that require at least five documents confirming one's identity before he or she can be re-issued another passport.

These are: authenticated birth certificate, authenticated baptismal certificate, authenticated Form 137 or diploma, and two old I.D.s with photo. Even if you used your real name, it's hard enough to complete these documents.

Ampingan gyud nato atong passports.

Wow, sa mailad lang. ;D
I would understand the Pinays seeking green pastures, hawak sa patalim.
Biometric fingerprinting ug eye photo is a must after Sept 11 attack. The USA improved their methods to control the flow of persons coming in/out of the country. They also demanded to their NATO member countries to do the same.
This is correct, and Pinoys being hawod sa palosot nangabuking karon.

sir benny,

when i was still single, i really wanted to go abroad. in fact, the 1st thing in my mind right after school was to go abroad right away and was able to secure my passport. however, things changed as time goes by and it even changed more when i got married. maybe because i was able to land a very good job here in our country. where i can still enjoy the luxury to travel, dine and time for liesure with my family.
i think i will just reconsider that plan/option as the kids grow older and there is a need for me to go somewhere else. right now, ill just stay here.

Regardless of what is  your race , it is your right to have the custody  of your child .

The Japanese govt commited a grave violation of human right. There is no reason to
left the child in Japan.

Its the parent mistakes to leave the child because of economics reasons in the Philippines. There is always opportunity somewhere.

noriko's parents lied to her. since they didn't tell them their real nationality. instead they let her think she's a real japanese by not exposing her to filipino values. right there and then, they deceive the child her real identity, her real lineage and her true blood.

They left the child, so there is a chance to come back in later years. Kaya lang they have to wait another five years.

But what they are doing is punishable in Philippines Law. Tampering passport is a 10 years jail sentence.

What a desperate moved, They don't speak english or tagalog so can be mistaken as a real Japs couple, even there child didn't learned a bit of tagalog world.

But that's the reality we're facing today. It's primarily dire poverty, my friends, that drive people away to look for greener pastures, some within its national border and some others outside of it. Kung dunay wala maapektuhe aning kalisod, good for them... but for the most us, nakahibaw man jud ta nga muna-muna naman jud natog utong ug ginhawa. Unsay kasulbaran aning problemaha? Morag hanap jud ug wala pay makita. There's no overnight solution to this, if there's any. Maayo pa siguro, we just wish every one the best. Those who fall along the cracks, sama sa Calderon family, unsaon taman. Let's wish them the best too. Di na lang nato husgahan kay basin hulagway ra pod na sila or representatives ra pod na sila sa uban pa natong mga kaigsoonon (o kadugo ba) nga nabutang sa maong ordeal, whether nasakpan o wala. Every one Filipino who've worked abroad knows in his/her heart di lalim molangyaw sa gawas sa Pilipinas. But no matter what their lot now is... they, too, realized how much they missed home and their respective families and that there's no place like home. Pero saonz...

And in a blink of an eye, unsa kaha kung ato sab balihon ang tanan: unsa kaha kung magdungan silang tanan ug decide nga mouli na lang sila sa Pilipinas? Makadawat kaha ta o basin kita ra poy mopatay nila o mosingka  ba nga "panglayos mo oy!"

Analyzing the trend these days, basin pohon ma legal na ang mag laag-laag sa laing parte sa kalibutan kung ma create na nila ang One World, One Government? Wala na nay visa2x hahaha. Have you read the ramblings of the proponents of this theory lately? Just wondering...

This one world, one community is partly a dream come true here in Europe since the borders are lifted for the EU member countries. This will be a next dream of the Pan American countries trying to do the same. I think this is also the aim of ASEAN, immigration within the borders is easy. It is complex to elaborate since it entangles the annoying issues like, human trafficking, smuggling and the like.

Since Marcos time, there is a government policy to offer Filipino manpower services abroad, without thinking of the brain drain problem. So you could see how important are the OFW remittances which upheld our economy. Assuming that our government is honest ( no misuse of taxes), the amount is enough to improve infrastructures  and the rest will follow. Taas na jamo subaron. My opinion folks.

kasabot man ko sa imo punto bnc. sakto sad ka ana. pero daghan mani na punto pod di ba? but you know what, not everything in life is fair. ang amerkano, japon o uban pang mga nasud, maybe people of first world, kung silay mo byahe (I know kay naka tsamba tag ung-ong aning grupoha)  we just buy tickets and whoosh, we go where we choose to. Kita sa Pilipinas (unless we have the access to visas already) mo linya pa tawon sa mga consular offices, bayad ug mahal, vulnerable sa mga mangingilad, wa pay labot ang gasto padung ug mo istar ug Manila kung taga probinsiya ka, during the whole processing, etc. Unya inig larga padung sa gawas, pila pa ka inspection ug pangusisa sa mga immigration offices (daghang factors of course ngano ni (laing isyu napod na)) maski human nakag kuhag visa (meaning human na kag usa ka initial  round of SI), while, let's say, deri sa US, they don't give a damn when you leave the country (go wherever you go, it's your right!), inig balik na ka nila inspeksyonon (dapat lang). Maski kini lang nga mga factors, dako na kaayong tentasyon nga duna joy mogamit ug "gimik" (of course, that doesn't make it right) para lang makagawas aron maka pangitag paagi (di pa jud sure, ni risk lang jud!) mamasin nga maka lingkawas sa kalisod nga usahay halos di na jud matun sa daghang mga tawo (although this one too is highly debatable). Ako sang punto... part of my analysis (maski sa point of psychology na lang) nga mao sang dunay tendency nganong mao sad ni ang gipili nga "path" or "direction" by some others besides those who follow the "current" legal procedure. And my real point is... kung sama pa tag pamaagi sa ubang mga nasud or kung fair palang (as in parehas) ang treatment sa matag nasud in terms of entries sa kada nasud... di jud unta ta "hangol" (as in now) aning langyaw2x o aning mga gimik2x nga gipangbuhat nato. Again, it has something to do with poverty.

Kung ni rebeldoeon nga pagkasulti, maybe the government is just too ignorant or corrupt to find a better way, or maybe (as some accused) they try to keep this kind of system, because the people are vulnerable this way (ug medyo dugay2x masakpan ang mga culprit kung duna may reklamo o investigation) or maybe like one member here said, wa jud siguro ta mahatagi ug "enough" proper values education growing up and neither today. We can already tell whatever we had wasn't enough. Napasagdan na lang jud siguro ning aspetoha even if there are many sectors clamoring for it. There's no one solution and there's no overnight success on the horizon if any. And discussions like this don't do anything good if not matched by an effort to start with one self (as another guy was saying). Charity begins at home, it is said. Peace begins with me as one song reverberated. Or as the Lord said, it's not what comes from the outside that defiles us (and there are many negative influence coming from the outside), but it's what come from the inside... those coming from the deep recesses of our hearts - they are what defile us. This should give us an idea how and where to start tackling our problem, instead of the blaming-game that some of us enjoy discussing about. The least we can do is really wish them "break-your-leg" (slang for luck) and even pray for them. Nakasa man tuod nang uban, pero kinsa man poy dili guilty o wa makasa in other ways. Judgment is never our prerogative but Him alone!
