Dozens Were Killed By Violent Tornadoes in Southern U.S.
« on: February 06, 2008, 06:58:57 PM »
At least 27 people have been killed and dozens injured by violent tornadoes in four southern US states.

The twisters hit Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky at the end of a day of Super Tuesday nominating votes for November's presidential election.

A huge fire erupted at a natural gas pumping station in Tennessee that may have been damaged by the storms.

In the same state, students were trapped under rubble in their dormitory after a tornado made the roof cave in.

The US National Weather Service said at least six tornadoes had touched down in the 100 miles (160km) between Jackson and Oxford, Mississippi.

Yes, this is a yearly problem for the tornado belt, mostly in the lowland Midwest. It not only is the agricultural capital of this country, but due to its flat plains as well as due to the interjections of warm and cold fronts, formation of tornados are a natural phenomenon. Eve during the age of the Native Americans, the Cherokees, which used to dominate this region, documented vis-a-vis oral folklore about tornadoes or in the local Cherokee colloquial diction, "Wind Spirits"

My condolences to those who were affected.

That's right Ms.Bams, that's why it's very important to pick and know where you want to live in the US.

Yes....your argument is good but I think it is not easy to transfer from one place to the other especially if you are born on that place where your roots/ancestors,and  your means of livelihood. It is your existence...your life!  I can't imagine that there is a government program passed from the political leaders to help those people who settled there to make a new start somewhere else or maybe I have no idea about this?  What you know and what you think?

Maybe they just adopted that saying ......"NO RISK NO FUN"! It is always a life with thrill.  Had seen lot of that incidents, it is really very amazing to think how can those people sleep well.

Well, you already mentioned that's really difficult for the people who were born and raise there to just move which you're right it's not easy. Especially those who have farms and makes lots of money from it. They just have to live day by day and whenever something like this happens, I guess they just have to deal with it and of course by the help of the government assistance, they can always rebuild. And if terrible happen again they will keep rebuilding. The last time I watched CNN around noon the Speaker of the White House said, the President didn't pronounce them state of emergency yet, I hope by this hour, he did already.
My point is, whenever I know that my place is always predicted with natural calamities, I just have to deal with it and find a place to live that is better and comfortable for the whole family. Having said that, it's always good to sacrifice a little in order to survive and then we go from there.
Just like what happen to Katrina calamaties, most of the people from there moved. And now some of them went back and starting to rebuild.
The bottom line is it's a matter of choice.

Per last CNN report, 50 people had been killed already.  This is just so sad.  Yes they knew already their situation that their place is susceptible to tornado .  They did some measures like having a place where to hide during tornado but I guess there's just no way out sometimes.  People live in this place all their lives and maybe they just don't know any other place to live. Their life is farming and if they go somewhere else, their livelihood is also affected, the only means to support their family. Besides, if this place is altogether dangerous and is deemed hazardous for people to live, the government could have had "condemned" the place but I guess this wasn't really that bad.

Just like in the Mindanao where rebels are harassing the people. I really wondered then why they wouldn't leave their place so they won't be caught in the middle of fighting and out of the danger place.  I think again.  Where would they be going?

Anyhow, may the dead victims of the tornado in the South  rest in peace and may the remaining victims find assistance to keep on with their lives.

You can never really live anyone else's life, not even your child's.
The influence you exert is through your own life, and what you've
      become yourself.
