The Russian government may set up a special commission to tackle problems of African swine fever outbreaks, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said on Wednesday.

“The situation is very difficult,” he noted. “Regional governors are taking relevant measures and at the same time they propose a federal program in this area. We shall also do our best to solve these problems.”

He did not rule out that an ad hoc commission will be set under the Russian government but refused to dwell into the status of a would-be anti-swine fever program.

The problem of funding, according to Dvorkovich, needs a “thorough study,” because it is necessary to take into account various parameters, such as expenses on restructuring of farms, etc.
