BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (CNN) 9th March 2008
— Eighteen people were killed and 50 others were injured early Sunday when a train slammed into a chartered bus near the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires, police said.
The crash occurred at about 2 a.m. local time when the bus drove onto the railroad tracks in front of an approaching train in Dolores, about 125 miles south of the capital city.
Local television footage showed the destroyed bus and train cars, overturned on the road and on the tracks. The train barrier bar was in the down position, and had been snapped in half. Seats, luggage and clothing were sprawled about the scene, scattered for at least 200 feet in every direction.
