Where To Find Jobs
« on: October 15, 2008, 03:15:02 AM »
# Newspapers…Only a small portion of companies advertise in the newspaper; however, it is still a great resource. You should start your search with the most popular newspaper editions in your region; the classified sections best utilized on Sundays and Wednesdays.

# Job Boards…The internet has become very popular and effective for employers and job seekers. You are able to apply for most positions on line using various types of search engines.

# Register with your local State Employment Service office…The Department of Labor maintains a current list of companies who generally list job postings. These postings are accessible on the computer.

# Public Libraries…Most local, town, county, state and federal examination announcements are listed; you can also conduct research on industry and/or companies you may have interest in.

# Job Fairs…Usually advertised in the Newspapers, Department of Labor, On-Line, and Libraries. This open forum is an excellent opportunity for you to show a potential employer how you shine. You should come dressed professionally and ready to hand out many resumes; additionally, use this opportunity to collect information on various companies.

# Network…Another common way to seek an interview and employment is through personal contacts. Talk with your friends, neighbors, teachers, etc. See if any of these contacts can produce leads for you to begin your job search. You're gaining information from others and with others. Keep your eyes and ears open at all times.

# Telephone book…If you specialize in a specific field/industry. Go through the yellow pages and do a mass mailing. You want to wait one week and then follow-up with a phone call to verify the company has received your resume and use the opportunity to ask for an interview.

# Memberships…This too can be considered a part of networking; however, if you're a member of the PTA, Chamber of Commerce, or any other specialized field you should ask if they know of any leads that can help you.

# Fee paid Agency…Register with several temporary and permanent agencies.

"Like most trends, at the beginning it's driven by fundamentals. At some point, speculation takes over. What the wise man does in the beginning, the fool does in the end." -Warren Buffet
